Roach is grasping his way outside of liberalism. If he hasn’t already done so, I think he would profit by reading Carl Schmitt’s thoughts on the friend/enemy disjunction. The problem here is that “conservatism” as it understood in America is synonymous with classical liberalism; “liberalism” itself having become identified with the Rawlsian strain. That’s why I attack “conservatism” instead of “traditionalism.”
