Marketing

So far, I haven’t done anything in the way of marketing this site. I’m convinced we can build a much larger following and boost our traffic by exposing more people to our content. My friend Paul of Stuff Black People Don’t Like (my favorite blog) has had a lot of success using Twitter and Facebook to build his audience.

I’ve added a TweetMeme button to the bottom of every post. If you have a Twitter account (sign up one), hit the ReTweet button and our content will get more attention in the Twitterverse. I don’t know much about TM, but it seems to work like Digg, and racialist content isn’t banned for TOS violation.  I’ve already had my Digg account sandboxed after a mere three submissions.

Posting backlinks to Occidental Dissent on other blogs and newsgroups also helps. If I remember correctly, it boosts our Google Page Rank. Any other suggestions?

  1. Call me superstitious, but I believe that taking all the steps in the Google Webmaster Tools and using Google Analytics increases your visibility to the search engine. But there’s really no substitute for getting clicked in search results, linked to by active sites, and having those people remain at your site for a significant period of time after having went to your site.

Don’t get too hung up on trying to game the search engines. It’s all been done and attempts to be too clever can get a site penalized by the algorithm. VDare does very well on searches despite being hands-down the shittiest website ever. That’s because they have excellent content, reams of unique content in their archives, and articles which are linkified to the point of self-parody. Counterintuitively, linking away from your site is a good way to get people to come to and stay at your site.

Brimelow manages to find attractive wives despite having the worst haircut ever, manages to get loads of web traffic despite having the ugliest website ever, manages to have a cushy mainstream media job despite being the king of the heretics, can exist in two different places at the same point in time, and leads the anti-immigration movement while actually being an immigrant.

    He’s my inspiration.

  2. Good ideas Hunter.

Have you thought about adding a chat-room feature to this website?

The reason I suggest this is that I often notice under the ‘Users Online’ section of the website at the very bottom right-hand column that there are frequently 10+ people on and reading the site at any given time. Thus, adding a chat-room feature might be a good way to bring more of the site’s readers and contributors together in real-time.

I think the following website outlines how to add this feature: http://blog.chatroll.com/how-to/add-a-free-wordpress-chat-box-to-your-blog-in-60-seconds
