Why Pick a Fight With The Jaffaites?

I’m obviously part of the “radical right.”

I’m just a Southern populist and nationalist though. I don’t have these views because I have read Nietzsche, Spengler, Yockey or Evola. I’ve read John C. Calhoun and George Fitzhugh.

Brion McClanahan is correct about Michael Anton, Harry Jaffa, the West Coast Straussians and Northern conservatism. Once you have made Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address the foundation of your worldview, you have committed yourself to a slippery slope. There are no limits on equality or the centralization and consolidation of power. Anton has no response to George Fitzhugh.

“Society requires “reversed action.” All its chords are unstrung; they must be screwed up to greater tensity. Visionary schismatics and speculative philosophers seized upon the reformation, and have been busy ever since in converting what was intended for salutary and moderate reform, into revolution, and conducting revolution into anarchy. …”

“It is now evident that those axioms have outlived their day – for no one, either North or South, has complained of our ferocious assault on them – much less attempted to reply to or refute our arguments and objections. All men begin very clearly to perceive, that the state of revolution is politically and socially abnormal and exceptional, and that the principles that would justify it are true in the particular, false in the general. “A recurrence to fundamental principles,” by an oppressed people, is treason if it fails; the noblest of heroism if it eventuates in successful revolution.” …”

“Yet, I believe that, under the banners of Socialism and more dangerous, because more delusive, Semi-Socialism, society is insensibly, and often unconsciously, marching to the utter abandonment of the most essential institutions – religion, family ties, property, and the restraints of justice. The present profession is, indeed, to stop at the half-way house of No-Government and Free Love; but we are sure that it cannot halt and encamp in such quarters. Society will work out erroneous doctrines to their logical consequences, and detect error only by the experience of mischief.” …”

“But a “frequent occurrence to fundamental principles” is at war with the continued existence of all government, and is a doctrine fit to be sported only by the Isms of the North and the Red Republicans of Europe. With them no principles are considered established and sacred, nor will ever be. When, in time of revolution, society is partially disbanded, disintegrated and dissolved, the doctrine of Human Equality may have a hearing, and may be useful in stimulating rebellion; but it is practically impossible, and directly conflicts with all government, all separate property, and all social existence.”

We cannot believe what is so entirely different from all our experience and observation, and they have become familiarized and inattentive to the infected social atmosphere they continually inhale. Besides, living in the midst of the isms, their situation is not favorable for calm observation or calm generation.” …”

“Why have you Bloomer’s and Women’s Right’s men, and strong-minded women, and Mormons, and anti-renters, and “vote myself a farm” men, Millerites, and Spiritual Rappers, and Shakers, and Widow Wakemanites, and Agrarians, and Grahamites, and a thousand other superstitious and infidel isms at the North ? Why is there faith in nothing, speculation about everything? Why is this unsettled, half demented state of the human man mind co-extensive in time and space, with free society? Why is Western Europe now starving? and why has it been fighting and starving for seventy years? Why all this, except that free society is a failure ? Slave society needs no defence till some other permanent practicable form of society has been discovered. None such has been discovered. Nobody at the North who reads my book will attempt to reply to it; for all the learned abolitionists had unconsciously discovered and proclaimed the failure of free society long before I did.”

“But political economy is the necessary result of Free Society – it is the only moral code which it can inculcate – and yet all its precepts are at war with morality. But for Christianity, Free Society would be a wilderness of crime; and Christianity has not fair play and a proper field of action, where government has failed to institute the peace-begetting and protective influence of domestic slavery. It is one of the necessary parts of government, without which men becomes enemies instead of brethren. There is no love between equals, and the divine precept, “Love thy neighbor as thyself,” is thundered vainly in the ears of men straining for the same object.

The maxim, “every man for himself,” embraces the whole moral code of Free Society; and Miss Bremer, and all the other philanthropists in the world, with their thousand schemes and institutions, will never be able to neutralize the immoral and death dealing tendency of that maxim, and of the antagonism and social war it generates.”

Calhoun is great.

George Fitzhugh is easily the most original American theorist of the 19th century though. The strongest argument against Northern conservatism is its own history.

In just the last ten years, we have watched it devolve into this and yield before a thousand new genders created by insane people on Tumblr which didn’t exist twenty years ago.

Note: Nietzsche and Spengler did fuel my interest in history though.

  1. Always love to see some Fitzhugh quotes. Accepting that a hierarchal society is natural, Biblical, and historical is the first step to realizing that said hierarchy is necessary to maintain a stable long term social order.

    • “Biblical” only in the sense that you SEE it in the Bible, like all other sins. Read between the lines of the accounts of those “great” kingdoms erected on layers of raped, pillaged, enslaved and exploited, and Solomon’s “wisdom” of exploitation (he even enslaved his own people).

  2. Why not pick a fight with them? Their core principle is Equality, the same as the Left’s. If you accept your opponent’s premise, logic sooner or later will force you to draw his conclusions.

  3. The problem is that slave society failed to industrialize, leaving it unable to preserve itself militarily.

That was a deliberate policy of the planter class, who did not want to do industry and put up obstacles for industry so as not to be challenged by rival elites.

The old South was a nightmare of most white people living in extreme poverty, often as minority, while being ruled over by corrupt fools who had zero loyalty to other white people. Had the planter class got its way, importation of blacks would have continued and industry would have been kept out of the South, resulting in an ever worsening demographic situation, a shrinking white minority across the whole South and continued white extreme poverty. Had the South gained independence, the regime would have fallen by some kind of white populist uprising with Northern support in the late 1800’s. Either that, or somewhat later, it would have fallen to a black uprising with broad international support like South Africa did.

The old South model of a multiracial society primarily economically based on cheap non-white labor is totally incompatible with white nationalism or even white survival.

Very good comment. If the South had seceded successfully, it might have approached the Black vs. White demographics of some Caribbean islands, a vast majority of mostly enslaved Blacks ruled by a very small White upper class with the assistance of small White and mulatto middle and lower classes.

      “the regime would have fallen by some kind of white populist uprising with Northern support in the late 1800’s. Either that, or somewhat later, it would have fallen to a black uprising with broad international support”;

      Both are possible.

Again, I think it’s worth noting that Mr. Fitzhugh, speaking the mind of the Southern elites, said not only Blacks but also some WHITES should be enslaved. The logic of the system required that a fully independent South would have given its “White trash” worse than sharecropping.

  4. Re: “There are no limits on equality or the centralization and consolidation of power”:

The U.S. and its satellites are becoming not more equal but more and more UN-equal, and there seems to be no limit to the IN-equality; and there seems to be no limit to the centralisation and consolidation of power, NOT in the common people but in the hands of the superwealthy Elites!

Mr. Fitzhugh was a thoroughgoing capitalist of the Southern (Black chattel slavery) style, but he would be pleased well enough (secretly at least) with the current plutocratic system, since he believed that “Men are NOT entitled to equal rights,” and that many men are “born with saddles on their backs” – destined to “be ridden,” and that “the riding does them good”! Fitzhugh believed not only Blacks but also some Whites should be chattel slaves: “It is a libel on white men to say that they are unfit for slavery”!

Mr. Calhoun was another thoroughgoing Southern (Black slavery style) capitalist. Calhoun claimed that slavery is perfectly normal because “there never has yet existed a wealthy and civilized society in which one portion of the community did not, in point of fact, live on the labor of the other.”

Marx explained that slavery – including Black chattel slavery – in capitalism was different than slavery in previous stages of economic history, and that capitalism and slavery are inextricably linked: “Direct slavery is as much the pivot upon which our present-day industrialism turns, as are machinery, credit, etc. Without slavery there would be no cotton, without cotton there would be no modern industry. It is slavery that has given value to the colonies, it is the colonies that have created world trade, and world trade is the necessary condition for large-scale machine industry. Slavery is therefore an economic category of paramount importance.”

  5. Much ado about nothing. That was then. This is now. There are irreconcilable differences between the races and when the non-whites out number whites, or even don’t out number them but have the power of the Jews, they will use their power to exterminate whites. Note that under US “white supremacy” the black birth rate exploded and the blacks never declined either as an absolute number or as a percentage of the population. Every body in the world wants to come here, live in a white neighborhood and sit next to white kids in class. It’s us versus them and all the “founding” stuff, however interesting, is largely irrelevant now in so far as racial relations are concerned.

  6. Jaffa was a Jew. – https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_V._Jaffa

    The Jews killed Christ.

“… the passage suggests rabbinic willingness to take responsibility for the execution of Jesus. No effort is made to pin his death upon the Romans……. Jewish apologetics that “we could not have done it” because of Roman sovereignty ring hollow when one examines the Talmudic account …
(“Jesus in the Talmud,” Steven Bayme, American Jewish Committee National Director, Professor of History at Yeshiva University, September 24, 2003)

That’s all one needs to know.

    Sodomites deserve to die.

“For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

    28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.”

That, too, is all one needs to know.

    Anathema.
