American History Series: White Christian Nationalism In Colonial New England

I’m continuing to enjoy reading Saints and Strangers: New England in British North America.

So far, we have seen that the early settlers of New England typically saw the local Indians as savages and were delighted that they were swept away by devastating epidemics which they saw as “God’s Broom” and interpreted as the work of divine providence preparing the way for English settlement in the region. They also passed anti-miscegenation laws and sold the Pequot Indians into slavery in the British Caribbean. New England was a pioneer of White Christian Nationalism.

“Puritan New England was not a theocracy; the church did not rule the state. Rather, the Puritans established Bible commonwealths in which church and state were allied to advance the reformed social order that could not be achieved at home. The Bible commonwealths of Massachusetts and Connecticut consisted of state-sponsored churches and colonial governments that included lay representatives. …

Of course, in early Massachusetts colonial suffrage and office-holding were limited to free white adult men who were spiritually converted members of the church. The founding generation, however, included large numbers of these freemen, and it was they who provided the impetus for political change. Puritan laymen were not democrats, but, mindful of their experience in England, they could be prickly about their enemies. They created a republican type of government that was radical for its time. …

In its Fundamental Agreement (1643), the New Haven Colony formalized a representative government that followed Massachusetts in limiting the right to vote and hold office to converted church members. …

Puritan civic thought recognized that some hierarchy was essential to the quest for ordered liberty …

Women did not participate in Puritan civil life, though some girls gained limited access to local schools. Women could not vote in town or church meetings. Wives did not own property under the English law of “coverture,” a wife was incorporated and sheltered under her husband’s legal identity. …

One Puritan writer observed that “tho the Husband be the Head of the wife, yet she is the Head of the family.” The ideal good wife was also a godly mother who nurtured the moral and spiritual development of her children. …

Anne Bradstreet gave birth to eight children, near the average for women in seventeenth-century New England. Women’s mean age of marriage was 22. Husbands were typically four years older, they often delayed marriage as they labored with their fathers to acquire sufficient family land to provide a competency. …”

The Handmaid’s Tale was based on this dystopia.

The average White woman in New England was having eight children. New England exported its people for the rest of the 17th century. It was by far the healthiest and most demographically successful colonial region in the New World.

  1. Christianity is a diverse religion for all people. Saying “white Christian” is incorrect and is asking for trouble. Please leave religion out of race.

    • @noreligion

People across the globe intermingle their own culture and folk customs(including witchcraft and animistic rituals) into the way they practice Christianity/Islam/Buddhism etc.

Race determines almost everything. It dictates, to a large extent, your temperament, your worldview, your physical and sexual development/maturation, your capacity for learning…I could go on….

Separation is not only fair and just, it’s necessary for the healthy development of ALL peoples.

    • NO BRAIN- There is NO Neutrality.

“If you dip into any college, or school, or parish, or family- anything you like- at a given point in its history, you always find that there was a time before that point when there is even less room for indecision and choices are even more momentous. Good is always getter better and bad is always getting worse: the possibilities of even apparent neutrality are always diminishing. The whole thing is sorting itself out all the time, coming to a point, getting sharper and harder.” – That Hideous Strength, p. 283, quoted in Gary North’s Political Polytheism, p 226-7.

“The fact is, if Christianity is false, it is of no importance; if it is true it is infinitely important. The only thing it cannot be is moderately important.” C.S. Lewis

“There is no neutral ground in the universe. Every square inch, every split second is claimed by God, and counterclaimed by Satan.” – CS Lewis

“To see and not to speak would be the great betrayal,” said Enoch Powell

“While the Bible maintains that the Christian apologist is prohibited from adopting the starting point of unbelieving thought, he is encouraged to show the unbeliever the end result of his foolish philosophical principles if they are consistently followed. As defenders of the only true faith, we are to “answer a fool as his folly deserves, lest he be wise in his own eyes” (Prov. 26:5). That is, we are to put the unbeliever’s worldview to the test, showing how absurd it is when followed consistently. “- https://americanvision.org/24207/no-apologies-please/

“…there is no religious neutrality, no neutral law, no neutral education, and no neutral civil government. Then they (i.e., we) will get busy in constructing a Bible-based social, political and religious order which finally denies the religious liberties of the enemies of God.” – Dr. Gary North

“Those who refuse to submit publicly to the eternal sanctions of God by submitting to His Church’s public marks of the covenant–baptism and holy communion–must be denied citizenship, just as they were in ancient Israel.”

“I am arguing that the evangelical testimony of historical sanctions that was available to the nations round about ancient Israel is still in operation. [Deut. 28)….. Christian Reconstructionists assert that this covenantal tool of evangelism is still operating, and that it still impresses lost sinners” [and that] …they will inevitably be confronted with the reality of God’s sanctions in history. They cannot escape it.” – Political Polytheism, 146-7.

    • ““The average White woman in New England was having eight children.”

      And maybe 2 reached adulthood.
In those times childhood mortality was a terror.

  2. They know even less about the socialism experiment disaster that led to near famine and starvation?
Man is not a learning animal and usually needs a rifle butt smash to the head or a fire lit under the rump to wake the F’ up.

    • “Man is not a learning animal”

A precious few are, the great bulk are sheep in a pasture, oblivious to anything but immediate danger.

  3. The Massachusetts Bay Colony was granted permission to exist by the English crown to provide a dumping ground for religious crackpots. After the American
Revolution New England proved the Crown correct in it’s assessment of the New Englanders, who in short order embraced crackpot Christian heresies like Unitarianism , Universalism, Rosicrucianism, Mormonism and Transcendentalism. They were ‘Often in error but never in doubt” and their smug self-righteousness led directly to the Civil War. A pox on them and their ways!

    • You make a strong point, but are the Anglicans who labeled them crackpots any different now than the New Englanders themselves? Both now drink from the poison cup of Globo-Pedo – proud citizens of Clown-World waving the rainbow flag. The root of the problem goes back further. How much further is the interesting question. I’ve read arguments that the seed of subversion was introduced in 1066 with the Norman conquest because the Norman aristos were beholden to the (((usual suspects))). That’s not totally convincing because one of the later kings expelled the devil-spawn in the 1200s and they didn’t return in any significant way until Cromwell in the 1600s. Would a Cromwell have been possible without Henry VIII’s abomination of decreeing himself head of the church?

The rot advances rapidly everywhere Satan’s spawn are allowed to settle, but it’s the depravity of our own elites which ultimately allows them in to begin with – often to tax-farm and plunder those ruled over. There were few places where they were effectively controlled and even then not in the truly long term. Byzantium held out the longest of anyone but it all went south for them once the (((Biznissman’s Crusade))) looted Constantinople in 1204. The walls of the city had stood firm since the mid-400s but someone left a gate open and the westerners proceeded to lay waste at the behest of their (((paymasters))).

  4. .Husband be the Head of the wife, yet she is the Head of the family.”

That’s a profound concept, very fitting.

  5. This country has a choice….White Christian Nationalism or the whole place will look like some nasty African Ghetto. What’s pathetic is that now some of our own White People are as sorry as the Blacks. So I say White Christian Nationalism is a beautiful thing and we should do everything we can so all our nations look that way forever. Deo Vindice!

  6. The Scarlet Letter was required reading in elementary school and you can bet that it isn’t anymore.
We read Animal Farm in sixth grade and 1984 in senior year.
There is a theory that Ape Lincoln got the idea to use slavery to make a fedgov Leviathan from his pen pal comrade Karl Marx.

  7. Having to wait 48 hours for your commentry to go up doesn’t really cut it in 2023. When are you going to begin running a more efficient operation?
By the time the comments are published, they’re buried by four new articles that attract the spotlight, meaning nothing I post gets read.
Please sort yourself out, and employ a part time contributer if the workload requires it.
    Just a friendly heads up.

    • “Having to wait 48 hours for your commentry to go up doesn’t really cut it in 2023. ”

      He’s only one person.
This is the reason i wish some fellow local pro-WHITES could work with HW.

HW, if you could find some posting software that offered a tree structure as well as linear posting that would be good, as a linear fashion of posting has many drawbacks.
