In between the “Americas First” foreign policy, Trump’s desire to negotiate a new nuclear deal with Iran, the withdrawal from Syria, peace negotiations with Russia to end the war in Ukraine, talk about a multipolar world order, the looming redeployment of troops from Europe and Hegseth telling the Europeans that they are going to be responsible for their own security now, it is clear the Trump administration is prioritizing the containment of China in East Asia which is being described as a peer rival now.
Yesterday, Trump floated the idea of de-nuclearization and negotiating a tripartite agreement with Russia and China to deescalate tensions and cut military spending. If we were planning a “war with Iran,” there would be a massive movement of military assets to the Middle East.
