I’d like to comment about the personality types represented in this Ezra Klein podcast.
One of the biggest turnoffs for me when it comes to NPR-type “champagne liberal” set is their utter femininity. The affected pretension in their voice. How they end a statement as if they’re asking a question (I have no idea what you call that, but I’m talking about the increase in octave that they end each sentence with).
I’m sure both of these guys are brilliant minds, but we’ve come to a time where the people who represent the Democratic Party or “progressives” are all cut from a very alien cloth. Men who have never dreamed of changing the oil in their car. Men who would call a tow truck when they have a flat tire rather than pull out the jack and tire tool. Men who’ve never worked a day of their lives. How can these people ever hope to identify with working class people? They can’t.
I appreciate that this guy is crunching numbers to better understand things, but if they truly want to understand why normal people voted for Trump, they’d do well to humble themselves and do normal people work for a few months. Maybe get a Walmart cashier job for a month. Or maybe hang Sheetrock for a while. It may not change their views, but it might help them understand things a little better
