Slavery was abolished. The Black Codes were repealed. Blacks were ushered into Illinois and were being elected to political offices by the Gilded Age. Racial discrimination was also banned at the time.

I remember reading a number of years ago about a basketball team from one of the HSBC “universities” (sic)that travelled to Japan for some sort of exhibition game. The young affletes decided to go on a rampage in a Japanese department store in Tokyo while visiting, stealing and breaking things while running down people as they escaped. This sort of behavior, not found in Japanese society, needless to say did not endear the young bucks to the locals who don’t like coloreds anyway.
