Trump Signs Bipartisan “Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act”

This is all Donald Trump has been allowed to do as president. He has been nothing but a rubber stamp for everything the establishment wants.

“Washington (CNN) – President Donald Trump on Wednesday signed the Hong Kong Human Rights and Democracy Act into law, enacting tough sanctions on China for its crackdown in Hong Kong.

“I signed these bills out of respect for President Xi, China, and the people of Hong Kong,” Trump said in a personal signing statement. “They are being enacted in the hope that Leaders and Representatives of China and Hong Kong will be able to amicably settle their differences leading to long term peace and prosperity for all.”

Pro-democracy activists in Hong Kong have long urged American lawmakers to approve the legislation. …”

South China Morning Post:

“Beijing “strongly opposes” the European Union making irresponsible accusations about Hong Kong affairs and warned foreign governments not to interfere in the city’s affairs.

Hua Chunying, a spokeswoman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, made the remarks at a press conference on Tuesday, a day after the European Union released a highly critical annual report on Hong Kong.

“We call on the European Union to stop interfering in Hong Kong affairs,” she said. …”

Good point.

Imagine if China was trying to interfere in the internal affairs of the United States or the European Union. The political establishment would be having a meltdown. These same people have no problem whatsoever meddling in the internal affairs of other countries all over the world.

New York Times:

“WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. — President Trump on Wednesday signed tough legislation that would impose sanctions on Chinese and Hong Kong officials responsible for human rights abuses in Hong Kong, expressing support for pro-democracy activists in the territory and most likely angering China as the two countries negotiate ending their trade war.

“I signed these bills out of respect for President Xi, China and the people of Hong Kong,” Mr. Trump said in a statement on Wednesday. “They are being enacted in the hope that leaders and representatives of China and Hong Kong will be able to amicably settle their differences leading to long-term peace and prosperity for all.”

The White House had previously refused to say whether the president would sign the legislation, which Congress overwhelmingly approved during a sensitive time for the administration. …

Because the bill, in theory, has the support of a veto-proof majority in Congress, it could have been enacted into law even if Mr. Trump had vetoed it. “

Tax cuts … signed that.

Banking deregulation … got that.

Jerusalem embassy … got that done too.

Syria withdrawal … not happening.

Conservative judges (who will issue nothing but pro-business decisions) … check.

Military buildup … check.

Criminal justice reform … got that done.

I’m not saying it is entirely his fault. He is not even really the president.

Since the beginning, the story of the Trump administration has been how Conservatism, Inc. has controlled policy whether it has been through staffing the executive branch or through its power in Congress and because of that “America First” has been nothing but business as usual. President Hillary Clinton or Jeb Bush would have also signed this bill.

Note: This was Sen. Marco Rubio’s bill.

  1. And be clear about one thing. Trump is in fact, destroying the former republican party. The fake quote about Trump running as a republican because they were easy to infiltrate turned out to be absolutely true.

  2. More and more countries need to tell the US to go f*** themselves. I would especially enjoy expulsions and arrests of US diplomatic personnel for “meddling” in the elections of other countries.

Their human rights concern certainly does not apply to Serbs in Kosovo, Palestinians in Palestine, Aymara in Bolivia, French workers wearing yellow vests, Afrikaners in South Africa, Russian speakers in Donetsk and Lugansk, etc. What hypocrites.

  3. HK is none of our business, it’s thousands of miles away and shares a border with China. The government in Peking is 100% correct in their criticism. I wonder how much Little Marco got paid to sponsor this bill? He certainly didn’t do it for free.

  4. Surprised our government actually had the balls to do this – they’re so compromised by Chinese money (like the NBA). The HK protesters are an inspiration, and hopefully Americans will display similar balls if/when the Feds try to take our guns. Really, I’m surprised and pleased by this. Whatever Rubio’s flaws, I’ve always respected the fact that he’s long been one of the few in Washington to stand up and speak the truth about the PRC.

    • We have as much business telling China how to run their country( and yes – Hong Kong is PART OF CHINA) as China would have lecturing us on the latest Baltimore or Ferguson chimp-out.

      • We have no business importing their garbage manufactures and shipping American jobs to Guangdong. While we do so, we’re complicit in their human rights abuses.

        • Jannie,

Does it work both ways? Countries who are against abortion and homosexual marriages should not do business with the USA and similar countries. Abortion is legalized murder and homosexual marriages are legalized sodomy. Those activities violate God’s Rights and that comes first.

Therefore anyone doing business with the United States is complicit in murder and sodomy by your standards. Perhaps you are right but then there is something wrong with just about every country on earth. So who do you trade with and have diplomacy with?

          Are you Chinese? Or Moslem?

        • Fine- Then re-employ every white American who is out of a job, and bring every manufacturing job from China to Appalachia. THAT would put teeth into your foolish statement. Without a concrete action to go along with it, it’s useless, otherwise.

  5. You’re right HW, Blormp isn’t really anything more than a figurehead. He could at least act presidential, but he’s too much of a buffoon for that. The last real president was Richard Nixon. And the deep state removed him from office with their CIA staged Watergate break-in.

  6. The Chinx have long memories. They remember how foreign colonial powers exploited their weakened condition during the decline and fall of their empire. China has gone through too much to allow themselves to be humiliated by those hostile powers again.

  7. Yes lets start a war with the country that gives gold to us and we are in their eternal debt forever because of the perfidious jews and their thieving tricks in the federal reserve and wall st. Makes absolute perfect sense to me…

Also the fact china basically owns us and in the last 80 years has acquired a mass sum of land in Australia, Canada, America,Uk and Africa Yep lets start a unwinnable war with them lol we couldn’t even win that stupid rice paddy island war in vietnam but sure lets go to war with the peoples republic of china this is unbelievably stupid but ok sure why not

  8. God, Trump is such a gross human being. Sometimes, I almost wish the communists would win, if only to get a good laugh while I’m working in the gulag, as these GOP dorks are put through kangaroo courts for their “crimes”.

  9. I honestly don’t know what’s better/worse. American GloboHomo or Red China. There are a lot of people on The Right now asking themselves the same question.

    • I’d rather live under a ruthless law and order Chinese occupation than this sick, depraved Judeo-Globo-Homo complex.

      • You don’t know what you’re saying. The law in China only protects the Party. A website like OD would be shut down in no time, and not only would Hunter be looking at an extended stint in an Outer Mongolian reeducation camp, the odds are most of his readership & commenters would too!

  10. Trump wants the black vote and Hispanic vote. Now he’s going after the Asian vote. Screw the White vote that put him in the WH.

  11. Those creeps in Washington don’t give a rat’s ass about “human rights” or “democracy” in Hong Kong or anywhere else.

There is a very long history of coups and overthrown foreign leaders proving that Washington supports “democracy” only when their favored candidate/party/side wins. Ask Mossadeq, Allende, Evo, Yanukovich and many others about that.

And “human rights” campaigns are just weapons to be used against opponents. Ask the Palestinians in the open-air concentration camp called Gaza about that. Look at how Washington blasts Iran for human rights violations and ignores Saudi Arabia.

  12. White Californians have been stripped of the protection of the law as the protection of the Bill of Rights has been denied to us. WHEN IS TRUMP GOING TO SIGN A CIVIL RIGHTS ACT FOR US?
