Music Break: Okie From Muskogee

From 2004 to 2007, 275,000 Californians moved to Oklahoma and Texas

A very Southern song from the bard Merle Haggard about California … this man is definitely not a “West Coast White Nationalist.”

“Okie From Muskogee” is a great tune that illustrates how the culture of Dixie is conservative and oriented around the place.

It is a culture that still appeals to the descendants of Southerners whose families moved to the North and West many years ago. The Blue State model is suffocating conservative Whites there who are fleeing to Dixie and Heartland.

Note: In the year 2011, the Okies that fled to the Golden State in the Dust Bowl and Great Depression are moving home to the Heartland.

Update: In the The New Yorker, Jeffrey Toobin explains how 80 years of “progressive” jurisprudence is on the verge of being toppled in the Supreme Court, and how Clarence Thomas is reviving the Tenth Amendment as a force in American law.

It is his own private war of revenge for being savaged as an “Uncle Tom” by the NAACP and liberal establishment for the past twenty years. The jurist Thomas is undermining the legal foundation of the New Deal and Great Society.

Clarence Thomas is from Georgia and admires Booker T. Washington. I will enjoy this delightful act of revenge on the “One People’s Project” next year when Thomas strikes down Obamacare and upholds Arizona’s SB 1070.

If Clarence Thomas upholds Alabama’s immigration law, I will have to get his autograph! The cherry on top will be seeing Obamamessiah go down in flames in the 2012 election.

  1. Thanks for that great tune.

The Lib/Lefty Smothers Brothers in the 60s were deeply shocked and offended when Merle Haggard played this song for the first time on their comedy TV show:

But other musicians who managed to get beyond Left and Right and appealed to largely White young audiences appreciated this song:

Check out the Grateful Dead’s (with some Beach Boys in latter days) version of this great song of our people.

  2. We don’t burn no draft cards down on Main Street;
We like livin’ right, and bein’ free

They like submitting to the Central State’s military slavery?
And claim that they like freedom.

  3. That’s not what he is saying.

He is saying that we don’t hate the military because it is the military, or war because it is war, or patriotism because it is patriotism, or the family because it is the family, or the community because it is the community.

Indeed, the military, the martial virtues, and patriotism are fully conservative. In a normal society, which is a conservative society, none of these things are necessarily bad.

  4. Thomas graduated from Yale Law School in 1974, and he maintains a rich and public loathing for the institution. In his autobiography, published in 2007, he wrote, “As a symbol of my disillusionment, I peeled a fifteen-cent sticker off a package of cigars and stuck it on the frame of my law degree to remind myself of the mistake I’d made by going to Yale. I never did change my mind about its value.” Thomas has refused entreaties from a series of deans at Yale to sit for a portrait for the school. (His law-school travels never take him to Yale or to comparable institutions. “I don’t do Ivies,” he told a law professor.

  5. Californians moved to Denver and Aspen and now Colorado is a SWPL paradise complete with black crime in the urban centers and Mexican illegals everywhere. Yankees moved to northern Virginia and Raleigh NC (where I live) and did the same. I’m sure these initial refugees from California know why their home state is screwed up (even if they won’t admit it openly) and they won’t make the same mistake twice. But once the limousine liberals and the SWPL’s catch on to these functioning new communities we’re gonna have to add Oklahoma to the list of casualties.

  6. As with all Northerners and Westerners, the effect of White flight from the Blue States on the Heartland and Dixie depends upon their reasons for moving here.

When I was in Raleigh last spring, the locals joked around with me about a city called “Cary,” which they explained stands for “Containment Area for Relocated Yankees.”

Colorado has received a disproportionate share of the White liberals who are fleeing California. I’ve been told that the conservatives of California are more likely to move to Idaho, Arizona, and Texas.

In 2008, the only reason that Obama won Virginia, North Carolina, and Florida is because of the transplant factor combined with the black vote.
