50 Years Forward: Birmingham SCLC Prays To “Stop The Violence”

A few weeks ago, we saw that Montgomery was praying to change black culture and was poised to overtake Birmingham in 2013 for the first time since the 19th century as “the most violent city in Alabama.”

The thugs in the “Comeback Town” are rallying though and refuse to surrender the state title without a fight:

“BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) – Today the head of the Metro Birmingham Southern Christian Leadership Conference called on area churches to become more active in combating violence. Calvin Woods, president of the Birmingham chapter of the SCLC, said the shooting deaths of a 15-year-old at Railroad Park and a two-year-old in the city is spurring his call. …

Those events include the annual memorial march at noon on Thursday, April 4. The march will start at Birmingham City Hall and go to Kelly Ingram Park. Thursday night the Carver Theater will host the Martin Luther King Keep the Dream Alive Awards. Friday there will be basketball games at Fair Park in which teams will be named after civil rights legends Fred Shuttlesworth, Abraham Woods and Colonel Stone Johnson. Coaches will include Mayor William Bell, past mayors Richard Arrington and Bernard Kincaid. Melba Langford will represent her husband Larry Langford who remains in federal prison on corruption charges. Sunday there will be a civil rights play at the Sixth Avenue Baptist Church.”

As the violence (and civil rights related prayers, marches, and basketball activity) in Birmingham surges, Montgomery is off to a powerful start this week with a shooting, another shooting, still another shooting, a stabbing, and a new homicide in which black people seem to be the common denominator.

Note: There is a report out today which claims that Alabama has the third highest rate of gun violence in America. We have the “seventh-worst gun-death rate for children ages 0–18.” In other words, black people in cities like Birmingham are using guns to kill black 4-year-olds and black 2-year-olds and black 15-year-olds.

  4. I am waiting for some DWL to claim that the violence is the result of the legacy of slavery and Jim Crow. Black people are never held accountable for their actions; somehow an excuse is always found to blame the White man for their misbehavior.

    Deconstruct the memes, that falsely give legitimacy to those are not deserving of it.
    In other words, the illegitimate are illegitmate… for a reason.

    God does not hear the prayers of the unrighteous.
    In the O.T., while slaves and other non-Israelites could join the ‘Chosen People,’ they never BECAME the Chosen People.

    Same thing applies in the N.T. One race, one Lord, one faith, one Baptism.
    Doubt it? Then why are ‘black churches’ so FALSE when compared to HISTORIC White (i.e, Catholic/liturgical) Churches?

    Because Blacks never were meant to be included/allowed ‘ontological status’ as equals in YHWH’s eyes- and especially (because?) of the liturgical heresies they would (and do) indulge in.

    I’m not even talking about IQ here. Just liturgy, and ‘right worship.’
    Trouble is, when WHITES start ‘aping’ blacks in their ‘worship services,’ the lines get blurred.

    And Satan (and the jews) laugh.

    You forgot to mention the seventh-highest state in percentage of black population in the country.
