Mississippi Highway Patrol Asks For Help In Anthony Hervey Investigation

The Mississippi Highway Patrol has completed its investigation into the death of Anthony Hervey last weekend:

“The Mississippi Highway Patrol is looking for the public’s help in identifying a car that may have caused the wreck which killed Anthony Hervey, a black Confederate flag supporter from Oxford.

Investigators say Hervey, 49, was killed Sunday when the 2005 Ford Explorer he was driving left the road and overturned. He was headed westbound in the left lane of U.S. 278 in Lafayette County on July 19 as he and Arlene Barnum returned from a Confederate flag rally in Alabama.

A reconstruction of the wreck shows the Explorer left the road at the crossover section of U.S. 278 and County Road 285 then continued into the median south of U.S. 278. The Explorer reentered U.S. 278, crossed both westbound lanes and continued off the right shoulder of U.S. 278. The Explorer then collided with an embankment and concrete ditch causing the vehicle to roll over several times. The SUV came to rest on its roof. …”

As we expected, the accident reconstruction found that Barnum’s vehicle crashed near Oxford pretty much as it was described in earlier reports.

“Witnesses to the crash, including Barnum, said a silver vehicle occupied by five black men was following Hervey’s Explorer and swerved towards the SUV but did not make contact with it. Barnum said the silver vehicle caused the Explorer to leave the road. An examination of the Explorer by investigators confirmed no contact was made with a second vehicle.

Another witness who observed the crash stated she saw the Explorer leave the road and crash, but could not confirm the presence of another vehicle. …

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is asking for the public’s help in the ongoing investigation. Anyone with information concerning the crash and possible identification of a silver vehicle is asked to call (662) 563-6415.”

Apparently, there were “witnesses to the crash, including Barnum” who reported seeing the silver vehicle occupied by five black men. There was another witness who observed the crash, but couldn’t confirm another vehicle was involved. Perhaps this individual was traveling in the opposite direction. In any case, the Mississippi Highway Patrol is asking for the public’s help in identifying the silver vehicle.
