The question that I have been wrestling with is this: how hard should I come out against Joe Biden and the Democratic majority in Congress in the 2022 midterms?
“The Justice Department is “actively considering” whether to seek a new law that would let prosecutors bring specific charges for plotting and carrying out acts of domestic terrorism, a senior department official said.
“One of the things we’re looking at is would we need new authorities,” Brad Wiegmann, deputy assistant attorney general for the department’s national security division, said during a House hearing Thursday. …
“The question we’re really wrestling with is: Are there gaps?” Wiegmann told a House Appropriations subcommittee. “Is there some type of conduct that we can envision that we can’t cover or would it be an otherwise benefit in having something else other than what we’re having now?” …
Currently, no U.S. law lets the government designate domestic extremists as terrorists or bring specific charges for domestic terrorism. …”
“The Justice Department is looking into ways to tighten federal criminal law to make it easier to prosecute alleged domestic terrorists, a top Justice Department official told Congress on Thursday. ..
The power to change the law rests with Congress, not President Joe Biden’s T. But Biden, whose Democrats narrowly control both houses of Congress, has made tackling domestic terrorism a priority.
“We won’t ignore what our intelligence agencies determine to be the most lethal terrorist threat to our homeland today, white supremacy is terrorism,” Biden said in his first speech to a joint session of Congress on Wednesday. …”
There is a mountain of things to be pissed off about like the border.
For the moment, I have decided to continue “monitoring the situation,” which is what I have done in the 2018 and 2020 elections. I didn’t vote in either of those elections, but I was harshly critical of Donald Trump and the Republicans. Now, I have become harshly critical of the Democrats, but I am far from sold on the idea of returning the Republicans to power and participating in another round of backlash politics only for Republicans to push their same old agenda. The civil liberties issue, however, is my red line.
If the Democrats intend to brand us as “domestic extremists” and criminalize our political views as tantamount to “terrorism” and round people up and essentially gulag them like the Stasi in East Germany, then we should respond to this threat by mobilizing to vote en masse to remove the Democratic majority from power in Congress. In my view, this actually would amount to a compelling reason to vote. Everything else that they are doing is already bad enough but that would be intolerable.
If the choice is the gulag for being branded a “domestic extremist” and prosecuted by Merrick Garland’s Department of Social Justice for thoughtcrime or more grandstanding from Ted Cruz, it is a no brainer. Right now, I have just amped up the criticism on this website, but we will see what happens.
