Insofar as COVID was ever a crisis, it is over now that most people have been vaccinated. The lockdowns are over. The government has sent out three stimulus checks and generous unemployment benefits. The eviction moratorium was understandable when cities and state governments were imposing lockdowns and driving people out of work through no fault of their own, but obviously this situation was temporary and was caused by a public health emergency which could not continue forever.
What did these people expect to happen? Were they planning on not paying their rent forever? I’m not a landlord so I can’t imagine what the last year has been like due to the eviction moratorium.

if you are more than three months behind on your rent/mortgage you are very unlikely to resolve that situation. These people should have been looking for other options. I’m sympathetic as housing costs are ridiculous in the US but I don’t see any changes coming.

I now have enough direct-ish experience with militant extreme street leftists (Antifa etc.) in two countries, and one of the very noticeable and obvious trans-national common denominators among them is their white hot contempt for the very concept of landlords, rent and rental real estate.
I don’t see changes to the housing market I should have said. It will inflate until it collapses. No relief for working slaves.
