Poll Watch: War In Ukraine

We have good news and bad news to report on Ukraine.

CBS News:

The good news is that the economy and inflation are dominating the midterms. Ukraine is far less important to voters than gas prices and inflation. It is about as important as dealing with violent crime. It would be wrong to interpret the midterms as a referendum on Ukraine.

“Everything changed” on February 24.

Joe Biden’s approval rating hasn’t changed. It has continued to drift downward over the past month. This isn’t surprising because gas prices and inflation have shot up and that more than anything is weighing him down. We can all agree that gas prices and inflation are major problems.

There isn’t much difference on issue polling.

It seems that the perception of Joe Biden who obviously sucks on so many issues is what is most on the mind of voters. He gets very similar numbers on crime, immigration and the economy.

The bad news on Ukraine …

CBS News:

The only positive way to look at this is that a separate ABC News poll found only 17% support for sending ground troops into Ukraine and 27% support for imposing a No-Fly Zone over Ukraine. Basically, Americans want to accept refugees, send weapons and impose sanctions on Russia to help Ukraine, but still don’t want to get too deeply involved in the war. It also isn’t the issue on the top of their minds.

ABC News:

“Americans were less supportive of more aggressive options that Biden has said the U.S. won’t pursue, including sending troops to Ukraine (17%) and imposing a no-fly zone over Ukraine (27%), which could mean direct military conflict with Russia. …”

The problem with this is that the war in Ukraine is going to severely aggravate inflation, gas prices and our supply chain issues. It is also a volatile situation that could easily lead to deeper U.S. involvement. Very few commentators aside from Tucker Carlson are communicating this to the public.

If you are like me, you are probably curious and want to know more about how support for Ukraine breaks down in the electorate on the key issues of sanctions, sending weapons and importance:

Breaking down all of these issues by age solves the mystery.

72% of voters over the age of 65 think Ukraine matters a lot to U.S. interests compared to 45% and 55% of voters under the ages of 30 and 44.

89% of voters over the age of 65 want to keep sanctions on Russia compared to 59% and 73% of voters under the ages of 30 and 44.

86% of voters over the age of 65 want to send weapons to Ukraine compared to 56% and 66% of voters under the ages of 30 and 44.

  1. Stop sending weapons. Stop providing intelligence. But that would assume our masters werent bloodthirsty bastards.

  2. The more we arm Ukraine along with NATO the longer it will last but I’m sure that’s what the politicians want.

  3. Re: “Americans want to accept refugees, send weapons and impose sanctions on Russia to help Ukraine, but still don’t want to get too deeply involved in the war. It also isn’t the issue on the top of their minds”:

Don’t want to get too deeply involved, huh? They (the Americans) already ARE and always have been completely involved since it is THEIR war from the beginning, theirs alone from top to bottom.

But you’re right it is surely isn’t the issue “on top” of their propaganda- and advertising- shrunken little capitalist-consumerist minds. They approve of imperialism, because they know it gets them things.
