In January 2022, a group of North Carolina voters formally challenged Cawthorn’s qualifications to run again, “citing his participation in a rally last January in Washington that questioned the presidential election outcome and preceded the Capitol riot.” The challenge is based on the third section of the Fourteenth Amendment, which prohibits anyone who has “engaged in insurrection or rebellion” against the U.S. government from holding public office.

He was targeted over Jan 06 (which probably didn’t help him with the GOP), as were a number of others — I recall seeing an article about this several weeks ago, and contacted the group (somewhat ironically called Free Speech for the People) via their website.

As is not uncommon, Wikipedia is being dishonest when it says ‘a group of North Carolina voters’ — a NYT article is more truthful:

Already, the nonprofit behind the Cawthorn challenge is partnering with Our Revolution, an advocacy group aligned with Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont, on a project called The 14Point3 Campaign. The two organizations are asking their followers to send letters to secretaries of state across the country, demanding they “exclude Mr. Trump from the ballot” because of the Disqualification Clause.

So there is money behind these lawsuits.

  2. That “democracy” for you, expose the crooks, drug parties and be on the wrong side of the war and your own party will turn on you if you don’t play ball with them.
