Ross Douthat’s interview with Marc Andreeson explains a lot.

From the tech bro perspective, Silicon Valley was a pillar of the Democratic coalition in the Clinton / Gore era that celebrated the internet and technology as engines of economic growth. This celebration of tech on the Left continued until Obama’s second term when the Great Awokening hit and a new wave of leftwing Millennial college graduates began to show up in Silicon Valley who were essentially Bernie Bros who supported both social revolution and an economic revolution against capitalism.

Gradually, the tech bros came under siege from their insane woke employees, activist groups and “journalists,” the EU, and finally from the Democratic Party itself which blamed Silicon Valley for being super spreaders of misinformation and disinformation which elected Trump. Mark Zuckerberg and Jack Dorsey, for example, were repeatedly grilled and threatened by Congress. Silicon Valley responded to the political pressure coming from the Left and Democrats by censoring the internet. The highwater mark was the COVID era and the deplatforming of Trump himself from the internet.

Emboldened by the defeat of Trump in 2020, the Biden administration went for the jugular of its tech allies in Silicon Valley: the Biden DOJ is trying to break up Google, the Biden SEC has sued Elon for the acquisition of Twitter, the Biden DOJ went after Tesla, the DOJ went after Meta and, most importantly, the Biden administration was vowing to regulate AI and crypto out of existence.

The view of people like Krystal Ball and Kyle Kulinski is that the tech bros are Robber Barons whose companies need to be broken up, regulated and destroyed. Kyle Kulinksi says that Marc Andreeson is a criminal who committed fraud who deserves to be in jail. Their “allies” on the Left have gone from being people like Al Gore to people like Kyle Kulinski and Elizabeth Warren.

That’s why the tech bros switched sides. Trump doesn’t give a shit about crypto or AI and is happy to take their money and put them in charge of these things in his administration. The only thing that Trump wants or expects from them is 1.) loyalty and 2.) for “America to win.”

    This is so funny to watch. The Dems were happy with tech oligarchs so long as they took the knee and submitted to their totalitarian program, like Zuck & Dorsey did. Now the libertarian Big Tech bros like Musk (OK he’s not a saint) have gone over to MAGA the non-libertarian Big Tech wing is scrambling to jump on the bus before they find themselves under it. The latter category include that disgusting Malthusian Gates. You will recall this is the guy who back in 2010 promised to limit population growth with vaccines.

    Bitcoin at $100,000 puts Satoshi Nakomoto in the top 20 richest billionaires (he’s estimated to hold around 1M bitcoin). Given he’s a proud Deplorable from flyover country I’m sure he’s on team MAGA in some capacity too. Bitcoin was the most libertarian invention in the history on Man – a form of wealth that’s impossible to confiscate & which can be transmitted between any 2 people without the possibility of interdiction or sanction by anyone. I’d personally like to see Trump go full El Salvador and makes it US legal tender, so you could pay your taxes in bitcoin. All Big Tech is not equal and it’s real important to understand the libertarian/non-libertarian distinction.

    He loved the tech oligarchs when they were censoring the right and donating to Democrats.

    But as soon as the oligarchs relaxed the censorship of the right and started donating to both parties, they suddenly became evil.

    Kulinski DOES NOT CARE about economic issues, or foreign policy for that matter.

    He ONLY cares about cultural issues. When it comes to cultural issues, he is a left wing extremist. He would gladly ally with Zionists and billionaires to censor and harass the cultural right. In fact, he has a long history of doing so.

    People like Kulinski, the extreme left wing of the establishment Democrats, are the absolute worst faction in American politics.

    The anti-establishment left has some good points, and so does the establishment right.

    The anti-establishment right is the best faction in American politics.

    The establishment left is irredeemably toxic.

The “oligarchy” are only bad now cuz Dump, snore. “No president is above the law” Biden took oligarch money up the yahoo but now we need to crack down on them. Biden has got to be the biggest POS president we’ve ever had. I wonder if the dementia is an act for his familiy’s bribery plausible deniability complex and if so, give him an emmy. Kulinski’s grift has him pretty tan and loaded now, is he going to pay his fair share?

    I think that uncle Donald uses those useful idiots also only for draining a Swamp and dump them afterwards. When The Swamp is drained, then those tech moguls become from useful idiots to useless idiots. They have too small brains and too much money and influence. Nobody with common sense will keep such people for long time.

  5. As a point of fact, I will say that Elon Musk was always leaning Republican from a Libertarian standpoint. I should know, I interviewed him before he was famous back in the 1990s. Lots of solid info there. The rest of the Techbros were likewise mostly not your typical Democrat if they were even Democrat. But, it was the Clinton Presidency and various Angel Investors and a certain Agency Proprietary Company which either leaned Democrat or were in fact Democrat that forced a change in their political culture thru financing their development. A savvy businessmen will always tact with the wind, and the wind in Silicon Valley became increasingly Democrat reaching a crescendo with gale force hurricanes Obama, Biden, DEI, AntiFa, George Floyd, and Anti-White Supremacy.

    The GOP blew its chance to organize this group of early market creators thru two failures. First, the GOP was the first party to go all out for globalism and outsourcing thereby destroying the careers of Boomer IT folks who were moderate Republicans and then the GOP was generally late to see IT potential with Gen Xers. This failure gutted the GOP’s early political capital with these groups. Second, replacing them with Pajeets and Chinks who clearly aligned with the Democrat Party while simultaneously ending State support for IT changed the demographics of the work force, the electorate, and the ties between traditionally Republican leaning IT business and regional politicians.  Top it off with red blooded Republican Con Inc Reagan Zombism, and the State and National GOP slaughtered their Northern California and Silicon Valley base. Meanwhile, in Southern California, the Bush supported Peace Dividend obliterated the defense industry there and replaced it with low IQ Mexicans thereby overwhelming the American right leaning electorate in that area. The one two punch made the CAGOP almost extinct.

    Take for example the history of the city council and mayor and the commercial and banking sector of Palo Alto which was the centerpiece of Silicon Valley. All predominantly Republicans or independents who leaned Republican in the 1980s-1990s. Through championing open borders, open immigration and open trade, while abandoning  State supported business development, RnD, training, etc, and simultaneously waxing on about Abortion and a thousand other marginal social issues, the GOP gutted its own base in the region. The City Council became hard Democrat and the GOP Banks were bought up by New Democrat leaning banks flush with Angel Investor cash and IPO Finance from successfully developing Gen X TechBros. The later were then often maneuvered out of their companies or forced to keep their heads down and pay tribute to the Democrats as their companies became Democrat and foreign staffed.

    The Gen Xers like Elon, Andreesen, Thiel, and scores of others from the PayPal Mafia, to the Internet Lords, to Dot.com celebrities, were moderates and mostly leaned Republican. After what happened, they had to knuckle down, do business, secure their fortunes, and pay Democrats to stay in the game. The Democrats had cornered the banking system and corporate establishment in the region, had colonized the state with foreign settlers, while all the GOP could sing was Laissaz Fair economics and abortion and gay marriage. In that situation who would any savvy businessman turn too?

    So, the TrechBros became Rick, the Casino Saloon Keeper in occupied Casablanca aka Silicon Valley, in the movie Casablanca. It took some Patriot resistors to recruit a Trump to break this stalemate in our socio-economic system. Some of the Deep Staters have joined us, the rest remain Vichy French Republicans, but regardless, the TechBros are now on a vendetta for payback. Anti-Monopoly of media,, finance,, retail, and a host of other industries must become the mantra of the GOP. Only Dissident Rightist A.S.Spergers could miss this opportunity.

    Note: I predict both parties will become increasingly populistic, with the Democrats supporting anti-monopoly policies targeting TechBros, and the Republicans supporting anti-monopolies on everyone else. Its also likely the Democrats will become increasingly Immigration Restrictionist to such an extent the GOP will lose its qualitative edge on that issue. Again, something we predicted would happen decades ago but were ignored and marginalized by the GOP. The GOP is called the Stupid Party for a reason. Fortunately, the most stupid ones are dying off thereby leaving us only raging bull elephants smashing everything around for the time being. Good, hopefully we can direct them onto the Pajeets next.

    • Have to give credit where credit is due. This is a very interesting and informative post. It explains a great deal about the catastrophic collapse of the California Republicans into a total clown-show Gay Old Pedoburo. Andreesen is kind of the perfect example of the Tech-Bro you describe. It also explains how the Orange Country stronghold of their voter base in the state was undermined and ultimately destroyed. From your description is would seem that the national and state party leadership led the charge to destroy the GOP in California. Stupid might explain some of it but the demographics of the state have been modified to such an extent that absent a mass exodus of Mexicans, Pajeets and other invaders the raging bull elephants will be having only a temporary effect.

      • The Democrats welcomed Republican policies on immigration and open borders starting with that great “conservative”, Ronald Reagan, who conserved nothing. The Democrats could clearly see that the invasion of Mexicans to do menial work and the Asian Invasion of Orange County could only work in their favor long term, and it did. Demographics is Destiny and both parties knew it. The Republicans just didn’t care so long as they got paid off now, the future of the state and country be damned.

        The recall of Democrat Governor Gray Davis was the Republicans’ last gasp of political power in the state. Governor Davis’ recall was mostly because of surging electrical prices and blackouts caused, ironically, by Republicans’ (so-called) “Free Market” policies. The thoroughly corrupt energy trading company Enron, stuffed with friends of dimwit Republican President GW Bush, rigged the electrical market in California causing prices to surge and unintended power failures at the same time, quite the achievement. Most of Enron’s top management ended up in prison after the company imploded because of massive fraud. GW Bush didn’t know them from Adam after that.

        That was the last straw after a series of other blunders from Gov. Davis resulting in his recall and The Terminator, who turned out to be useless, being elected as the last California Republican Governor. One would think that after the disasters in the LA area from the recent fires that the people there would wake up and get rid of the thoroughly corrupt and incompetent Democrat rulers, even if just as an act of desperation. In spite of gross Democrat incompetence resulting in deaths, impoverishment and massive property destruction the voters there, such as they are, will continue to vote Democrat, telling the corrupt, incompetent local government officials: “Give me some More”. . . . and they will.
