“As long as it takes” is over.
It looks like this gargantuan waste of human life will be ending soon.
“It looks like this gargantuan waste of human life will be ending soon.”
God I hope so.
Of course (((Nuland))) and the rest of the perpetrators of this disaster will walk away scot-free. That’s just enraging.
@@Hunter Wallace,
“It looks like this gargantuan waste of human life will be ending soon.”
Your premise is the waste of life was caused by the US somehow and not by Russia. This is just apologia for Russian imperialism. The fact is, had the US not supplied the Ukrainians, they still would’ve fought, killed Russians, and died in the process.
The point being that there is nothing stopping further bloodshed except Russia. While Hegseth’s proposals are a negotiating tactic to entice Russia to accept peace, the fact is Russia is the one that needs to accept peace.
The Ukrainians have been fighting to stop further advances but mostly to regain territory. The US and allies have not provided the material support necessary to adequately do that, but the Ukrainians still tried and have gotten some territory back.
Meanwhile, numerous attempts have been made for Russia to accept an armistice to the fighting and negotiate for peace. All Russia had to accept was Ukrainian independence. They wouldn’t even accept that.
At this time, what the US is trying to do is to get the Ukrainians and Russians to accept further fighting isn’t productive. We can get the Ukrainians to accept that. Getting the Russians to accept that is the hard part.
By unilaterally announcing Ukraine will not get NATO membership, only European troops will be used for peacekeeping and not protected by Article V, all public Russian justifications for fighting are over. There is no reason now for the Russians to continue fighting except they wish to conquer all of Ukraine. If that is the road they go down, they will be incredibly sorry. Trump will make sure Ukraine gets what it needs to throw the Russians back or even more.
