Donald Trump Pauses Most Tariffs, Doubles Down on China

I’ve been battling sleepless nights, fatigue and work-life balance all week as my personal life adjusts to our new reality of having a 10-year-old, a wide open toddler and a newborn daughter. I apologize for my lack of energy in keeping the site updated. This is my third time going through this.

I’m sure everyone has been following the rollercoaster with Trump’s tariffs and trade war with China with trillions of dollars in value in financial markets vanishing one day, only to reappear the next day, only to vanish again the following day, and so on. This version of the American economy that was constructed by Bill Clinton and congressional Republicans in the 1990s is like the Hawk Tuah memecoin.

Yesterday, Trump paused most of his tariffs while doubling down on China and keeping the global 10% tariff. I think he doubled down again on China this morning. Even with this retreat to focusing squarely on China, which everyone agrees is our biggest problem, Trump has imposed the largest tariff since Smoot Hawley in the 1930s. The end of Chimerica is going to cause a lot of disruption in our lives.

  1. The Chinese run their country for the benefit of the Chinese people. America is run for the benefit of big business. It is big business in America who wish for China to be run for the benefit of big business. And a war has started by American big business to get China to change its ways. Donald Trump is the servant of big business interests.

    • Junk, like Nike sneakers, should be made in America by robots. It would help advance our automation technology and produce higher incomes, instead of using Vietnamese and Malay slave labor.

  2. I read Trump’s books obsessively during the 2016 campaign. Through them I found what he really cared about. He didn’t care about abortion, race, guns, gays, big gov, the federal reserve, or many of the other issues most Americans get animated about. He was ferociously fixated on trade deficits, defense pacts, globalism, jobs, and a comprehensive noninterventionist, isolationist, protectionist disdain for other nations as either smart adversaries taking advantage of our stupidity or ingrate parasite fake allies. I loved it! Even his hatred for illegal immigrants is not race-based, but out of a perception that other countries are dumping their human waste on us and making us pay for it. He really does like braindrain because he sees it as getting over on other countries to rob them of their best most educated and talented people, whatever color they are. This is where he really stands and why he does what he does, policy-wise.

  3. I’ve never believed tariffs should have been imposed on so many countries, just the main offenders. What industrial advantage does Australia hold over America, for example?
China has been sucking you (and us) dry for decades. Trump’s measures are long overdue.
One could argue the pros and cons of such measures, but at the end of the day, you either want industrial sovereignty and security, or you don’t.

    • They haven’t been sucking us dry. They provide goods and get the ever declining dollar in return. WE let them in to our Universities and Corporations. Greedy CEO’s shipped our factories over there. Only fools would do such things. The Chinese don’t have to do anything other than wait for the West to kill itself.

  4. Trump screwed up. 25 years of Chimercia can’t be unwound at the snap of his fingers. He should have stuck to bullying individual countries for minor but useful concessions – a factory here, increased purchases of US goods there. Now he’s likely to get nothing. The trade deficit may even increase as Chinese goods are routed through Vietnam and Mexico whereas US exports may be harder to ‘launder’.

The only silver lining is that Bessent got him to walk it back before economic disruption crucified the GOP.

    • ‘ 25 years of Chimercia can’t be unwound at the snap of his fingers. ‘

Absolutely right, too much too fast.

He should have gone after the most egregious offenders incrementally, phase by phase.

  5. ‘Donald Trump Pauses Most Tariffs, ‘

Because the treasury bond market took a dive and his advisors told him to back off.

  6. All eyes should be on India. If they agree to a deal its over for China and they will make a deal with Trump. If they don’t, it will likely end in war.

India is the major manufacturing competitor of China, while also being the major second/third party of the BRICS coalition. As goes India, so goes Russia because they need their petroleum demand or their economy is wrecked, and China crashing into the mountain means Russian rides them to the ground to the bitter end like the guy riding the bomb in doctor strangelove. It all hinges on India. Everyone else is gonna deal with the US regardless. Only India can really make a decision here.

Pray for cooler heads and cynical hindu Nationalists who know they can get a huge leg up on China here.

  7. I’ve confirmed my hypothesis by using Grok over hours long discussions with the system trying to figure out where the key fulcrum is on this situation.

  8. Victor “ingenious-creative half-knowledge” Hugo, kinda halfway funny amateur, who attributes beauty not to any order but to chaos, who believes Trump has “converted to Judaism” (a glance at the internet is enough to disprove this), and who spreads endless more of such nonsense incl. aliens.

He continues his manic-autistic campaign against Jim Fetzer & Co, confirming like a yapping little mutt exactly what he hand-wringingly rejects: being a racist and anti-Semite. Here is the “proof video” to save his “reputation” as a humanistic anti-racist, in which he abuses a naive Negress for his purpos.

A freakazoid, strongly reminiscent of Kevin J. Barrett and his “Truth Jihad” lunacy, on whose podcast he was recently present, and who, despite an alleged lack of money, is now bragging about a total overhaul of his website (financed by an oil sheikh?).

Hugo recently landed his current biggest coup at “Redacted” on Judentube, although I doubt he will ever be invited there again. He should title his “art” “wonderfully entertaining nonsense” and sell it as his own brand on a (long oversaturated) supply market. That’s the kind of zoo inmates we’re surrounded by now.

  9. I hope this passes moderation, but words can’t describe how much I’ve come to dislike (I’m being selective with my words) most of the people who sit around on these sites and b$&ch about Donald Trump. He’s doing, or trying to do, things we’ve only fantasized a president doing for decades. Some mistakes, some hasty decisions, some moves with ulterior motives that aren’t perfectly aligned with what we (or some of us) think they should be, Yet nothing makes 75% of the armchair pundits happy. Every positive move that is made gets cold take analysis that makes all but the most autistic sociopaths cringe. The Overton margins move ever so much more to the right, and the right finds ever more marginal positions to take, to the point of siding with leftists.

    • @Observer,
Yes I hear you. It’s baffling and frustrating. China shills are littering the sight, making you question if it’s still actually pro white/European/American.
Trump closes the border…. orange man bad.
Trump deports illegal criminals……. orange man bad.
Trump attempts to return industrial activity to America…… orange man bad.
Whatever he does, he’s gone the “wrong” way about it.
In the rigmarole and complexity that is politics, he won’t, and can’t please everyone all the time. You cross each bridge as you get to it, and you’ll have your critic’s at every one, but at least Trump is attempting to get the wheels in motion.
All the while, these armchair experts condemn everything that he actions, whilst doing nothing themselves. What’s the alternative? Just be Biden11?

    • ‘When do we get a NS party?’

HA ! With the lame whites in this country and the malevolent chosen extinguishing anyone of merit, never.

    • When you can get tens of millions of completely dedicated White Americans to join it and a Fuhrer supernaturally empowered and worthy enough to lead them. Until then, it’s more sewage decline and impotent whining on the internet.

  10. TRUMP BLINKS AGAIN

Fresh after being cowed by Bassett and his financiar coalition references to the bond market, Trump puts his tail being his legs and now exempts all cell phones and computers and semi conductors from the Trump Tariff, including those made in China.
    https://www.newindianexpress.com/business/2025/Apr/12/us-exempts-smartphones-computers-from-global-trump-tariffs

These  products represent a significant amount of the US trade and balances with China. Upwards of 27% maybe even 35% of our trade imbalances with China is in those categories. These products represent also a significant part of the high-tech industrial economy that Trump and others would like the United States to have. They are a key component of any future domestic manufacturing and their sourcing within the US is necessary for all sorts of national security and independent domestic economy reasons.

For example, the chips that are in the hardware inside the cell phones and the computers are also used in a host of other manufacturing oriented production. Additionally, many of these chips are also used in consumable goods such as toys period. Giving a pass to these imports makes it impossible for the US to build an independent domestic manufacturing industry. Even if we build some portion of the manufacturing tree, the heart of these manufactures will be made, supplied, and controlled by China.

For instance, Hunter Wallace’s recent “affair” with Fang Fang’s Chinese AI. The AI is now completely embedded in Hunter’s phone down to the chips themselves. Because, his Apple Iphone is made in China, its chips are made in China, its screens are made in China. Since the AI is also made on China, it can rewrite and control Hunter’s IPhone thru firmware already embedded on his CCP made phone. With all sorts of Chinese directed firmware inside the hardware of his phone, the CCP knows exactly what, when, where, and how, Hunter Wallace is doing anything throughout the rest of his day period.

Worse, given IPhones interoperability with all sorts of other products, its likely Hunter’s entire tech ecosystem down to computer games and the home maintenance network is now monitored and controlled from China. Now, imagine this applied to some future US Manufacturing base created by China. It may look, sound, and act like American machines, goods, products, etc but deep inside its a CCP Decepticon. So, now that even if Hunter purges his phone, it has embedded itself into his ecosystem such that if he gets around Air Force One, the contamination will spread. The door is open to CCP infiltration.

Now that Trump is allowing these CCP origin tech cells to continue to be imported without Tariffs, they will likewise become embedded into any future high tech manufacturing. This is why this decision is stupid on many levels. Not only  without tariffs will there will be no domestic production of these key products and components, the internal components of future US manufacturing is CCP controlled.

The counter argument is it will take some time to ramp up production inside the United States. But, the fact is most of these end products like IPhones, are useful long after their planned obsolescence by the manufacturers. While US production is ramped up, we will just have to deal with using older but updated phones. Failure to do this shows Trump is now scared of the Financiers and Chinese marketers. This is Trump’s second blink. Trump is rapidly deescalatong from his tariff program. Eerily much like with his Trump Wall. Not good.
