Why Trump is right to proscribe Antifa.
(1) Even though the precipitating crime (Charlie Kirk) really didn’t have that much to do with Antifa, per se, as we now know, (though they share congruent political energy), Antifa have done plenty of things in the recent past to deserve this kind of scrutiny. This should have been done a long time ago. It’s a shame that it took this, but that’s human nature, not to get bothered by anything until it directly affects you. Several Ancient Roman philosophers have entered the comment section. Or, if you come at the king, you best not miss.
(2) To the argument that “Antifa isn’t an organization.” Well then, neither is Al Qaeda. All it means is that, from a legal and constitutional standpoint, the legwork is going to be more difficult. But it can be done.
(3) It will bait left wingers to take up for Antifa, which you know they’ll do out of pure reactionary verve, and all that will be turned into negative campaign ads.
(4) Furthermore, forcing the tide to fall wrt Antifa is going to expose a lot of more “normal” or “mainstream” left-of-center or even center-left skinny dippers. Either as active supporters, implicit supporters, accidental supporters, or pussyfooters. It is pretty well known that Antifa tend to be the downwardly mobile regression to the mean children of households that are on the UMC SES slash mainstream center-left or left spectrum.
(5) And relevant to me all the way over here, when American law enforcement starts turning over rocks and doing the auditing and forensic accounting, some of that trail is going to lead straight to Berlin. “Humanitarian organization” funding, for plausible deniability.

Will federal law enforcement prosecute federal crimes committed by Antifa in previous years, especially 2020-2023? Many federal law enforcement officers have been assaulted by Antifa, and many federal buildings have been subjected to vandalism and arson by Antifa, with no prosecutions.
Can we get explicit assurances that there will NOT be a crackdown on non-violent non-leftist groups, such as White Nationalists and peaceful pro-Palestinian protesters?

Hope they also review what happened in Charlottesville and goes after all the those in government: the Dem governor, mayor, the police chief who were “working with” antifa/BLM/etc to turn what was intended to be a non-violent rally in a park that the Unite the Right had a legal permit for into a all out street brawl/riot where the police did not keep the UTR people and antifa/BLM/etc separated. In order to genuinely neutralize Antifa, they have to be defunded. There has been a great deal of money funneled into the numerous Antifa chapters, who are present even in a state like Utah. The usual suspects are naturally prominent among their funders, and if Trump were serious about taking them out he’s be taking on some of his own donor class.

Older guys in the game will remember that during the time of Reagan, from 81 to 86 the FBI severely persecuted antifa. It was fairly brutal, a lot of them were beaten severely. By 1988 antifa was a pet of the FBI, on the payroll, and as strong as ever.
