I’ve always liked Greg Conte.
I think Greg is an intelligent, educated, hilarious True Believer who is driven by an incurable nostalgia for National Socialist Germany. I see him as a man who wears many hats in the “NS” world – writer, author, comedian, historian, political organizer, street organizer, high IQ antisemite, etc.
In my previous article, I noted how different types of people are attracted to “NS” world and I mentioned how one of the archetypes is the overeducated history and philosophy nerd. I think of them as the librarians of the “NS” movement. Some people are brutish and others are bookish. Some people read obscure books and write long winded essays and others respond to crude cartoons.

Well, it seems not everyone agrees yet. In a recent article, the southern gentleman known as “Huntaaa Wallace” argued that “Trump’s” America is a better people’s community (Volksgemeinschaft) than Hitler’s Germany.

His main argument was voting percentages. More people voted for Trump than Hitler… therefore White America today is a stronger society than Hitler’s Germany.

I don’t know how this is debatable.
It strikes me as an apples and oranges comparison, but I will entertain it.
In the November 1932 German election, which was the last free election, Adolf Hitler’s NSDAP won only 33% of the vote. The Social Democrats and Communist Party won a combined 37% of the vote. Hitler only had the support of a third of the German people. The Far Left was an equally potent political force. It was fear of Bolshevism that drove German conservatives into the alliance with Hitler.
Germany in the 1930s had enormous social cleavages on the basis of religion and class which is why the idea of a “Volksgemeinschaft” was so appealing in that context. In addition to Social Democrats and Communists, the Catholic Centre Party was an independent political force. Even with the violence and repression of the March 1933 German election, the NSDAP only managed to win 44% of the vote. The majority of Germans never supported National Socialism in a free election.
This was also at the peak of National Socialism in the Great Depression. Social Democrats and Christian Democrats would later go on to dominate German politics for the rest of the 20th century. Even today, Germans refuse to vote for the Far Right with the AfD only managing to win 21% of the vote. The Far Left has always been much stronger in German politics. This was true in the Second Reich. It was true in the Weimar Republic. It was true through the whole postwar era. It is still true in our own times.
To put this in perspective, 76% of White men and 83% of White women in Alabama voted for Trump in the 2024 election. Trump won 45% of White men and 42% of White women in Oregon. He won 56% of White men in Delaware, 55% in Connecticut, 55% in Rhode Island without the aid of a major economic depression or organized street violence to suppress his opposition. Trump had more support among White men in New England than Hitler ever had in Germany. He was the one facing lawfare.
My article was specifically about comparing the relative strength of a “Volksgemeinschaft” in the American South in 2025 to Germans in the 1930s. White evangelical Protestants are the distinct tribe which dominates the South and 85% of them voted for Trump. Among those who attend church regularly, over 90% of them voted for Trump. White Christian Nationalism is a far more cohesive and unifying force for Trump than National Socialism was for Hitler. There is no equivalence between the Far Left and Far Right in the South. There are no socialist, communist or anarchist formations that have any meaningful presence in our politics. Unlike Germany in the 1930s, socialism and communism have never had any political traction here. We don’t have class based politics. We don’t even really have a competitive two party system because of the extraordinary racial and political solidarity of Southern Whites.
If Trump was winning only 33% or 44% of the White vote in a Southern county, we would call that a poor performance. He won 32% of the vote in Albemarle County, VA in the 2024 election. National Socialism rose in Germany in the 1930s in the context of vicious street fights with socialists and communists in a deeply divided country. Southern Whites are not deeply divided along class and religious lines by any stretch of the imagination. The vast majority of the Southern White working class and Southern White middle class voted for Trump. He won a majority of Southern Protestants and Catholics. Southern Whites are overwhelmingly conservative and rightwing populists who vote as an ethnic bloc and this way of life has persisted since the Reconstruction era. There is no German parallel to this.
Greg’s response is to wave this all away and fallback to whataboutism. It is true that Germans fought bravely and admirably for their country against its enemies in World War II, but this was nothing new. The same was true of German soldiers who fought for the Kaiser in the Great War. The same was true of the Japanese. The same was true of the Allies, particularly the Russians, who won World War II. The swift collapse of Hitler’s government and the lack of any meaningful resistance to the occupation illustrates that National Socialism had failed to put down deep roots in German society. The Vietnamese, for example, succeeded in driving the Americans out of their country through sheer persistence. When George W. Bush invaded Iraq, neocons pointed to National Socialist Germany as the model of a country that was successfully conquered and reconstructed by liberals without much resistance.
We’re getting lost in the sauce of history here.
My intention has never been to relitigate the World War II era.
Adolf Hitler and the Third Reich have been dead for 80 years. The NSDAP doesn’t exist anymore. Nearly everyone who was involved in World War II is long dead. We’re both Americans who live in a different country on a different continent in another century. And yet, we are comparing and contrasting “Trump’s America” with “Hitler’s Germany” as if the two were contemporaries and one regime was an alternative to the other when one of these two is long buried in the graveyard of history.
If I were to put myself in Greg’s shoes, this would be like announcing to the world that I am a Confederate citizen and explaining that the Confederacy is under occupation by the United States and that Jefferson Davis and Robert E. Lee are better men that Donald Trump and the Confederate Constitution is superior to the American Constitution. I could go around shouting at people in my community that I demand nothing less than the restoration of slavery, the recovery of my ancestor’s lost plantation and the redemption in specie of the full value of my ancestor’s Confederate war bonds. To settle for anything less than the rebirth of the Confederacy and final victory is to be pleased with mere scraps and false hope.
What shall we call this? It is wishful thinking to put it mildly. It is also less eccentric than what is being proposed by “NS” activists which is that somehow “National Socialism” can and ought to be resurrected in 21st century America and that this is possible and can be accomplished through the means of abandoning political engagement and posting lots of angry comments on X and Telegram. The ghost of the Confederacy at least haunts this country because it is part of our own history.
“NS” is a morbid fandom of a dead regime. There is no reason to believe these fans are capable of achieving anything resembling MAGA’s political success here. There are no “NS” organizations. There isn’t a “NS” party. There are no “NS” candidates. There isn’t even a will to engage in politics. There is only a subculture which has a reputation for attracting dysfunctional people who engage in periodic violent outbursts. This subculture extends an invitation to Americans to become miserable and marginalized and because “being a Nazi” is coded as evil under the liberal social order it is people who are genuinely evil and naturally sociopathic who are disproportionately tempted to accept that offer.
Greg believes we should follow Hitler’s One Enemy Principle and blame all our problems on the Jews in order to simplify the complexity of reality for low-IQ and low information White people.

He then points to the fact that the Press is the most important part. Without the press, the rest of Jewish power would collapse.

No, it simply multiplies the legions of American cranks who eat conspiracy theories like opioids and whose lives become worse off as a consequence. A great example of this is John Earnest whose gun jammed when he threw his life away to attack a synagogue in Poway, CA in 2019. Trying to apply these tactics in a different time and culture with an entirely different people (how “NS” can be exported to non-Germans when the ideology is based on the German volk is sidestepped) hasn’t worked. We also see this in the desperation to appeal to DSA types as if recruiting those people to a red-brown socialist alliance is the key to political success in American politics. We don’t live in 1930s Germany. The old playbook doesn’t work here. It has never worked here. American cultural and political conditions are too different.
Perhaps the president knows more about how to navigate and succeed in American politics than “NS” activists? He has won two national elections and lost another close one. “NS” political strategists incline toward creating a nationalist and patriotic movement based on bitter alienation from White America, contempt for “rightoids” and Third Worldism. Some believe the key to political success lies in attacking Christianity or losing elections to the Left to punish White people with tough “medicine.” These people don’t have a clue about how to win at politics and their track record reflects this. Adopting their philosophy, however, is highly effective at ruining your attitude and destroying your life.

class: Hitler supported class collaboration and opposed class conflict.
foreign policy: Hitler was worse than George W Bush.

We would not deny that these people live in reality, because, as we know, reality is very diverse. What these people want could very well become generally accepted reality, as Nazi Germany has already proven. What disgusts me a little about people like Conte or “Warstrike” is their appropriation of an ideology without a deeper understanding of its contextualization in German history. This is a weal post. There were over 40 political parties starting in the 1933 elections, so a score of around 40% is very good. The NS electoral score was more than double of the party that arrived in second place. Considering that NS only saw the light of day in the 1920s, it’s rather impressive. Apples and oranges re the situation in the South. The NS had to start a security group because its meetings were constantly harassed by communists.
I understand your larger point of attempting to denigrate NS because you’re tired of its appeal among some fringe Americans. I share that frustration or lassitude when it manifests itself in uniforms and other paraphernalia and open NS references, but what NS achieved in a very condensed time frame is truly unbelievable. When one objectively looks at their social achievements, they’re simply excellent. Yes, there was some thuggery involved like during the Night of the Long Knives but we’re speaking of people who just came out of the brutalizing circumstances of WW1, the mass horrors of Bolshevist coup and the like. Economic depression and communist chaos gave birth to a unique environment where hard, though men were placed in a civil war type atmosphere. NS was a revolutionary movement, and all sort of bloody things happen during revolutions.
