I’ve been dealing with this disaster for a week now.
Last Friday, I got T-boned at a four way intersection by a white Ford F-150. This is the third time in two years that someone has driven into me and destroyed one of our vehicles.
The first time it happened in Auburn in 2023 it was an illegal alien from Venezuela who rear-ended my wife’s Kia and who lied about having insurance. The second time it happened in June it was a White Boomer couple from Kentucky who drove into me while making an illegal pass while driving home. I don’t even know who did it this time because they drove off and fled the scene. I assume it was because they were either drunk or using drugs or panicked or had a warrant out for their arrest.
I bought this little used car outright with cash in August because I didn’t want to get stuck with another car payment. I was also concerned something like this might happen again after the previous two accidents. I just got the title transferred and the license plate on it less than two weeks ago. This is the worst accident that I have been in and I have been dealing with whiplash all week.
Anyway, the point of sharing this is that you would never know this because I didn’t allow the person who wrecked my car and got away with it to wreck my attitude. I went home from the crash grateful to be alive and to see my three kids. It could have been a lot worse. I will have to buy yet another car. I woke up the next morning grateful for all the things that I have going for me in life as I do every day.
The moral of the story: some people allow setbacks in life to destroy their attitude and they carry that resentment around with them as baggage. It can be a financial loss, a failed marriage, relationship problems, a political setback, etc. It is not what happens to them. Life is always throwing curve balls. It is how they choose to react to it. They become negative people caught in a downward spiral.

I suggest you get a dashcam for you next car. It’ll be helpful for insurance and might catch a bad driver fleeing after making contact with your vehicle.
My fatal mistake was that I got out of the car and was talking to other people who witnessed the crash to persuade them to stick around until the police arrived when the person who hit me drove off. I didn’t get his tag number. He initially stopped, but quickly fled.

Auto collisions are a big problem here in So Cal with so many illegal aliens who are unlicensed and uninsured and unclear on the concept of traffic laws. Over the last twenty years I’ve had a half dozen or so collisions with them, happily mostly fender benders. I drive a beater so that my life won’t be ruined by the loss of a BMW or whatever. You have to drive very defensively, almost pathologically so. Always use seatbelt too. Keep up the positive attitude. That’s the main thing.

The same thing happened to me 15 months ago. I was driving down a street on a warm sunny day. A middle aged White woman ran through a stop sign and hit my car just behind the drivers seat. I was not hurt but the car (a 2023 Dodge Charger) was totaled.
There was no excuse whatsoever for this stupid woman to run a stop sign. She was possibly on her cell phone. Her car, a 2023 model was also totaled. She looked like a stupid rat caught in a trap.
I was able to get an exact replacement, a 2023 Dodge Charger, but lost a not inconsiderable amount of money in the difference between the insurance payout and the cost of the car I’m now driving.

That is actually true to a degree. The combine, which is the accurate term for what I am talking about was a creation of Al Capone. Reminds me of when I was in college and had a small 160 Honda motorcycle (top speed about 80mph). A car pulled right out in front of me and I turned that bike hard right and it slammed into his left door. I think I was going not too fast about 35mph (or no more than 45mph) and I didn’t fall over and the bike stayed upright. (I have been hurt in other motorcycle accident(s) and have been on crutches for a while.) I think I had some minor dents on the bike but his door definitely had a dent in it.
Solution: sell the motorcycle and get something with 4 wheels and maybe be a bit more visible to other drivers and maybe live through a few more accidents longer.

However, in America, as a family man, with such long distances between places and no acceptable public transportation, the price to pay is a certain immobility. Those who can live with that don’t miss anything. The question is always how self-sufficient you can be.

In the SF metro area the BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit system, connecting to the vibrant, diverse city of Oakland and other parts provides much unexpected excitement for riders. It’s also a nice place for bums, crazies, drug addicts et al. to relax and panhandle. Not so great a place for White families and decent people.
Likewise the MARTA metro system in Atlanta (known locally as Moving Africans Rapidly Through Atlanta) is plagued by violence and other problems. This is typical for most public transport in the U.S. In Charlotte, NC the poor Ukrainian girl was murdered by diversity on public transport.

Don’t know if I posted this when your last vehicle was taken out, but here in the Southwest, we always had a large population of illegal aliens with no auto insurance. You’d be surprised how many even American “latinx” have no drivers licenses.
Every car insurance company offers the option to acquire insurance in case you are hit by an uninsured driver. It’s more expensive than it used to be, but it’s not that much.
You also want to get paid for salvage. Total loss is the only department that tends to turn a profit for insurance companies, because the insurance companies can part out the car.
Here’s a little tip. Puerto Ricans are crazy drivers, and will pull stunts like you have never seen in hope of collecting a payout from your insurance company. Even “real” Puerto Rican drivers licenses maybe phony! That’s why illegal aliens use them as id.
Forgot to add, the federal, state, and local governments as well as towing companies have auto auctions all the time, so if you know someone with great mechanical acuity to look under the hood and kick the tires, etc., you can get some pretty good deals.
Also, the automobile industry is going through a “correction,” of sorts. Their inventory is not moving, their lots are overflowing, because thanks to the high interest rates, people are not buying.
People are also turning in their vehicles, because they are upside and they cannot refinance with any lower interest, because thanks to not only regular depreciation but the value of these vehicles rapidly dropping, they are stuck with huge payments they can’t afford.

Advice for the whole country. People need to consolidate trips as much as possible. Save gas, stay off the road as much as possible. So many people are distracted while driving. I always see them looking down at their damn phones, not at the road.
