A question that remains unanswered to this day (apparently because it is unanswerable): Can “capitalism” ever be fundamentally anti-liberal, or isn’t that a contradiction in terms?
Or are we dealing with pure conceptual confusion, since these terms (such as capitalism versus or including socialism) meant something completely different in Germany than what we, having grown up in so-called “liberal democracies” of a Western—that is, Anglo-American—orientation, now hold to be true?
As we know, even the archetypical capitalistic United States is a capitalist-socialist hybrid, though not as obvious as in China or the Nordic countries.
