My son was born this evening at 8:46 PM. He is 6 pounds and 13 ounces and 21 inches long. It was a long and exhausting experience, but is true that you don’t know what love is until you see your own child.

I caught some flack suggesting Hunter should wait under the delivery in a near by bar, have a beer and not intrude in to a woman’s place.
I like the idea of Midwives, instead of women lawyers, women in combat.

Long time reader here, but not much of a commenter. Congrats on the birth of your son. I well remember holding my first son for the first time some 25 years ago. As much as I used to avoid holding babies prior to then, it was the most natural thing imaginable to hold him.

The nurse had me participate in the birth by holding Renee’s right leg in place. It wasn’t something I had planned on.

I think girls should get to attend a real birth at a young age. Boys obviously not.
The medicalization of childbirth is very destructive, in my opinion. Women do not belong in combat and men should not be at the childbed.
But that’s just my opinion.

I think women have always wanted to shield men from the realities of childbirth just as men have wanted to shield women from the realities of combat and warfare.
However, it worked for you’all congratulations on the birth of your son. Children are a blessing not only to the parents but to their clan and kin. Let us hope you can help young Whites to re-discover this truth.

I got to do that each time we had a child. A defining moment, of bringing the child fully into their own, in the world.
