Undertakers, coroners and medical examiners can all be bought off easily enough. Doctors can’t always make accurate determinations as to the exact cause of death. They too can be pressured or persuaded to change their reports.

I’d be curious in the 2007-2008 season’s numbers as well. Feb, 2008, was the last time I caught influenza. I felt like death. Started the day after the Super Bowl. Woke up with a ‘non-productive’ cough and gradually, as that Monday wore on, started feeling worse and worse. Feverish, tired as shit. I stopped and bought KFC on the way home, ate it without gusto and fall asleep hard. I did not leave my place for days, and I basically slept for 2 of them. I had a cough and fever that would not let up. I leaned over once and almost barfed an empty stomach out. One night I woke up drenched in sweat, but that was the mark that I had turned the corner to recovery, but I was in a state that things coulds quickly have gone south.
One misleading outgrowth of the Hoaxer narrative is the trivialization of influenza. Sorry, but it’s “only the flu” is no consolation. Any respiratory viral spread that’s even just a tad more deadly than influenza is not something to fiddle with.
