As with the anti-Asian hate crimes bill, the Republican Senate put up virtually no resistance to this. In fact, there was less resistance to this than the hate crimes bill when Josh Hawley was the sole vote against it.

Is there unanimous support for Juneteenth among the Republican base? I highly doubt it, but this is just the latest example of how institutions have become so disconnected from and unrepresentative of voters.

Honestly this is one of those window dressing bullshit token things that doesn’t bother me too much. Not that all the black federal employees at the SS office need any more paid days off or anything, and I’m already sick to death of the 3-4 black history months that we have to endure every year. But in the grand scheme of things, this one doesn’t make my blood boil like the antiwhite “farmer Covid relief for blacks only” kind of bullshit that they’re trying to shove or the idea of forced equity instead of meritocracy.
