Charleston, WV has an ongoing homeless problem. You wouldn’t expect that in one of the most reasonable housing markets in the US.
There are small towns around Charleston, in which you could live almost for free, as the population has gone, and the buildings remain.
The homeless in Charleston, are for the most part, drug addicts, alcoholics, and the mentally ill, or in a few cases just the down & out. Help is available, but, not used by the homeless.
