The CBC is seizing on the “ugly freedoms” take.
“Freedom” is a code word that has been weaponized by the “far right.”

Often associated with protests and rallies in the United States, the term has taken hold among protesters who are part of the Freedom Convoy, which rolled into Ottawa in late January and has become entrenched in the city’s downtown.
For many, freedom is a malleable term — one that’s open to interpretation.
That flexibility, in part, has fuelled its growth among certain groups, said Barbara Perry, director of the Centre on Hate, Bias and Extremism at the Oshawa-based Ontario Tech University.
“It is a term that has resonated…. You can define it and understand it and sort of manipulate it in a way that makes sense to you and is useful to you, depending on your perspective,” she told Cross Country Checkup. …
To see the word freedom bandied about as part of these protests points to a broader circulation of what Elisabeth Anker calls “violent” forms of freedom.
“Freedom is a slippery concept,” said Anker, an associate professor of political science at George Washington University and author of Ugly Freedoms, which examines the history of how freedom, as a concept, has been used in American society.
“On the far right, [individual freedom] is often translated into somebody who refuses to be bound by norms of equality, treating all people equally or norms to remedy inequality, whether that’s trying to remedy racial discrimination or gender discrimination.” …
Anker says the concept of freedom as displayed in the anti-mandate protests is something more often attributed to the United States. “Freedom is often used almost as a national entitlement, as a claim for what people have,” she said. …”
PMCs, of course, as we have emphasized here time and again are people who are accustomed to giving orders and bossing others around. This is at odds with their professed philosophy.
Progressives don’t really believe in liberalism or democracy so much as authoritarian rule by credentialed experts and technocrats. COVID has illustrated how easily liberal democracy can be discarded when it gets in the way of this ambition. Ugly Freedoms can’t be allowed to get in the way of The Science.
The phrase “our democracy” doesn’t mean what most people think it means. It has nothing to do with electoral democracy. It means rule by PMCs as a social class. It means that they are in charge. They are “democracy” now. Similarly, the word “equality” now means “equity” or treating racial groups differently and especially favoring blacks over all other races. The word “racism” has been redefined to mean discrimination and systematic oppression by Whites. The word “liberalism” also now means Wokeism and various other sexual perversions like “trans” and has been decoupled from the philosophy.
In Justin Trudeau’s Canada, “liberalism” now means vaccine mandates, censorship, declaring martial law, declaring yourself a dictator, using “freedom” in air quotes, the state seizing private bank accounts, crushing religious liberty, hounding people into unemployment, witch hunts over words, eradicating pluralism, burning churches to the ground, being extremely intolerant of those who have different political opinions, toppling statues of John A. MacDonald and Winston Churchill, etc. The ordinary people who protesting Trudeau’s dictatorship who are being literally crushed by the state are the “authoritarians.”

Probably only appeal to aging boomers. I think a better idea is to mock their use of ‘ugly freedom.’ Freedom is ugly when it’s white. That gets right to the point.
The media hates freedom and when people can make their own decisions, something the clowns in the media can’t do. They’re slaves to their bosses and want everyone else to be slave too. Misery loves company.
