House Speaker Mike Johnson Receives Sheldon Adelson Defender of Israel Award

In his short tenure as Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson has done literally nothing EXCEPT target college students for holding pro-Palestinian protests and passing various bills to Stand With Israel.

National Review:

The New York Post reported Sunday evening that Johnson and House GOP conference chair Elise Stefanik of New York raked in $1 million at a pair of Manhattan fundraisers over the weekend, featuring high-profile figures like Blackstone Group CEO Stephen Schwarzman and former New York representative Lee Zeldin. (Recall that Zeldin’s strong gubernatorial run against Democratic governor Kathy Hochul last year is widely credited for helping many House Republicans flip Biden districts during an otherwise lackluster midterm cycle for the GOP.) NR confirms that Johnson and Zeldin raised roughly half a million dollars at Sunday evening’s “Grow the Majority NY” fundraiser and both Republicans ended the evening with the pro-Israel nonprofit Zionist Organization of America, according to a Zeldin spokesman. …

AIPAC is Mike Johnson’s biggest donor.

The Daily Beast:

The hard-right Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) on Sunday held its annual dinner—and its featured guest was none other than newly minted House Speaker Mike Johnson, who received the organization’s Dr. Miriam and Sheldon G. Adelson Defender of Israel Award.

The crowd, markedly smaller than in previous years, was notably subdued and somber. A mixture of anger, fear, and defiance filled the room. Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack reverberated, just as its repercussions continue to play out in Israel, Gaza, and the broader Middle East.

Johnson was warmly received and announced that he had been invited to speak before the Knesset, Israel’s parliament, and would do “that as soon as possible.” Johnson stuck to the script, reaffirming the U.S.-Israel alliance and stressing America’s Judeo-Christian tradition. …

House Republicans were supposed to be impeaching Joe Biden.

What happened to all of those big promises in the midterms? It seems like there is plenty of time to shovel billions to Israel and to hold hearings about anti-Israel bias and antisemitism on college campuses.
