Tucker Carlson Interviews Robert Lighthizer

Excellent.

In 2025, I can put on my headphones and rock out to an hour and a half long in depth discussion of tariffs, industrial policy and American trade policy, which according to some people is “neoconservatism”!

  1. I am a bit more of the Austrian Economics school, so I see tariffs as a tax on domestic consumers to benefit chosen companies. That said, I can see how the positives can in certain cases out weigh the negatives. We definitely do need to make things here. And I would love to replace the income tax with tariffs, though I don’t think that will happen.

  2. 20M people are currently attending US universities – many getting useless degrees in stuff like Poly Sci – just so they don’t have to work in factories. Who – exactly – is going to working in all of these new factories making tube socks and electric drills that are magically going to pop up like spring flowers in the rain? Every once in awhile soft-handed pseudo-intellectuals like Carlson and Wallace and Lighthizer who have never worked an honest day’s labor in their lives have these grandiose ideas that somehow American manufacturing is going to experience a rebirth but these plans always wither in the harsh light of reality.

    • In a way, I agree with you. The trickle of manufacturing moving overseas that started in the 1960’s (e.g. Japanese cars and TVs) became a flood in the early 90’s. This has been going on for 40+ years. It’s not going to be reversed in 4 years. That’s the biggest downfall of the system in the US. Trump can put everything in place, but the next administration can reverse it all. The Chinese elite have a much more pro-China outlook and they aren’t changing at the top every 4 years. Programs can be put into place and kept in place, perhaps tweaked, for decades. The only programs that have been kept in place in the USA for decades are ones that harm the country.

Secondly, our educational system is a wreck. It’s been so dumbed down that we have many students “graduating” high school who read and write at a 4th grade level, if not totally illiterate. The system has to be turned around but there are huge vested interests in keeping it the way it is. And telling everyone to home school their children is not the answer. A business man can decide to make widgets in the US and even build a factory but who will staff it? Where will the skilled workers come from? It would take years to rebuild the expertise we once had here. As Lighthizer said American companies make money in China only until the Chinese figure out how to do it themselves. The American company is then forced out. In some cases, American’s have been out of the loop with certain technologies for two decades. In that time, the Chinese have moved ahead with innovation while we only have retirees who know how it was done 20 years ago. Will Washington be supporting technology theft and espionage the way the Chinese did and still do? We aren’t stupid. It could be done, but it will take time. Is the will there to keep programs in place over multiple regime changes?

Lastly, there has to be a national propaganda effort to change people’s views on education, science and technology, along the same lines as was done during the space race. We need to instill in people the desire to complete an education at least to the high school level and not just get by but to excel to the best of their ability. A track system, similar to what they have in Germany, would be ideal, but I really don’t see that happening here.

Don’t get me wrong, what Trump is doing, as explained by Lighthizer, is good and long overdue. But there are many other areas that have to be worked on as well in order to succeed.

  3. In principle, racial interests must always take priority over economic concerns. Having said that, Trump is totally clueless about his protectionist ideas. China is racially superior to the brown blob that America has become, that means it will produce better cars, phones, steel, robots, etc than what the American worker can do. The 1950s America can never come back because America is majority non white state, no amount of economic tricks can ever change that fact.

Basically Americans will end up with more expensive low quality stuff (yes the quality will be inferior to Chinese products). This is one thing even the most hardcore Trump cultists cannot narrate away, economic woes are political death to any president.

  4. hunter has chud derangement syndrome. he doesn’t even analyze politics anymore, he’s just schizophrenically stringing together flimsiest “evidence” of an alleged goyim conspiracy to control politics and media, all so he can ‘own the wignats’ on twitter and here

    • Trump era conservatism has detoxified and embraced paleoconservative priorities like immigration restriction, protectionism and industrial policy. I plan to continue highlighting how none of this is fringe anymore. It is a major accomplishment.

As for wignats, they aren’t interested in anything but droning on about Jews, so I doubt this discussion interested them. This isn’t a wignat website

      • So now the NS types hate people who work for an honest living with their hands. Who’s going to work in these factories? Me, and millions of other White Americans as well. Many of us already do, and we can benefit greatly from an expansion of protectionist industrial policy in America.
We can’t all make out living in Underwater Basket Weaving, after all. Do y’all seriously envision a future where worthless loaves like you are paid handsomely to sit around and trade chewing card factoids about the Third Reich? Lol!

        • People “working with their hands” isn’t a political statement, it’s not politics, and nobody cares what your job is. All Americans should be looked after when it comes to restricting immigration or a tariff policy. It shouldn’t matter if you’re high skill, low skill, blue collar, white collar. NS is class collaborationist. People should take pride in their work and not have a chip on their shoulder about it.
“worthless loaves like you are paid handsomely to sit around and trade chewing card factoids about the Third Reich”
You start off with the morally-indignant sanctimony about how your job was disrespected by someone (who?), and now you’re insulting people you have some vague political disagreement with by insinuating everyone who disagrees is a layabout scrounger. The irony. This is “multiracial working-class populism” brain rot in action.

      • @Gary This literally makes no sense. I’m completely aware of the jews and what they’ve done throughout history and continue doing to this day. But in no way should that cause a Christian to abandon their faith. This incoherent babble I hear from these anti-Christian types is astounding. Have you ever read the Bible? It talks about the jews a lot. Calls them out. Much like Martin Luther did and countless others. As I do as well. But it can’t be the single focal point all the time. Yes, I and my circles discuss the JQ and understand it but we aren’t going to sit around and be some dame depressing like y’all are. We have hot wives, beautiful children and want to have hope and optimism. Why can’t we have that AND be awake to the JQ? I agree with HW on his takes here and y’all know he is awake to the issue as well. We just don’t want to be cranks that talk about Kraft Mac and cheese and Levi’s and the JEWS in every sentence. Do you own a phone? Well guess what??? It’s a jew company that controls it cause there is only Apple and Google there guy. So no more phone for you. No more blue box Mac and cheese. It’s just so tiresome. We get it and agree on many things but y’all are just nonstop all the time and really do see (((them))) in your cornflakes. Deo Vindice.

  5. When you have manufacturing, you have economic sovereignty and security. Something’s wrong when you rely on China for everything from your Volvo to your socks.
I don’t care if it’s more expensive…….I wanna buy locally made.

    • You have zero sovereignty and security in America, unless you consider the Oligarchs of ZOG as you fellow citizens. They control all the levers of power, they have near totalitarian power over you, they can fire you from any job, deplatform you with a press of button, and if that is not good enough they can get their rubber stamping politicians to arrest you on a lot of different crimes.

Now compare that to president Xi, can he do that to you?

  6. Wrong! https://namecensus.com/last-names/lighthizer-surname-popularity/

A minor onomastic challenge. The “technical” sounding name Lighthizer is one of those anglicizations, in this case from German Leuthäuser, which has nothing to do with a lighthouse keeper, btw. It belongs to a category of occupational surnames related to the serving of beverages, similar to names like Wirth, Schenk, Krüger, or Zapf.

    https://forebears.io/surnames/leuth%C3%A4user

Its origins are rooted in the Middle High German term “lît-hûs,” where “lît” refers to a type of spiced or fruit wine, and “hûs” means “house.” A “lîthûser” (later evolving into “Leuthäuser”) was originally a term for someone who operated or worked in a house where this type of wine was served – essentially a tavern keeper or innkeeper.

    Description:
The film documentary “Killing Nazis” tells the real story of a true “Inglourious Basterd”, the now 91-year-old Alfred Müller from Vienna-Ottakring. Having fled from the Nazis to Palestine as a teenager, he became Chaim Miller in exile and was trained as an agent in Nazi uniform in a special unit of the British army. In 1945, he returned to Austria as a soldier in the “Jewish Brigades”, where his parents were murdered in the Holocaust. Alfred Müller and his unit took vigilante revenge by tracking down, kidnapping, interrogating and executing dozens of SS and Gestapo members.
The film allows the viewer to experience and empathize with how and why Chaim Miller went from victim to perpetrator, and it impressively shows how a person’s life is shaped by history and how history is influenced by a person’s life.

  9. It’s not just the price, it’s also the quality. A lot of the steel being made in the US is made in electric furnaces, which re-melt scrap metal. So, electric furnaces depend on the quality of the scrap. For the last 50 years more and more electric furnace steel has gotten into the scrap metal pool. A couple of big problems are high sulfur content in scrap steel, and inclusions in electric made scrap steel. The high-quality blast furnace/ bop shop process has been replaced by the electric furnaces which to the uninformed seem like a turn it on, turn it off process.

There will be a test on this material.

Brad, in my humble opinion, stainless steel will also be effected, even though expensive alloys like nickel are used to make stainless in an electric furnace. If you get any questions from Alabama and old friends of Harry Crossfield.
