I’ve taken a break from the midterms to argue with Groypers about Roman history.
Fuentes has argued that the Germans would be “absolutely nothing” without Rome. What happened to Rome though? Did Roman civilization spread across Europe or did Rome itself collapse?
It always was Rome. As Belloc wrote, the Dark Ages were just a pause. The Roman religion, the Catholic Faith, still slowly was converting the barbarian North, while absorbing the Teutons’ youthful vigor. The new flowering began with the Carolingian Renaissance, after the Scandinavians were mostly converted, especially the Normans in France, their raids ended, and the great Crusades began. That’s why this is written in the Roman alphabet. Greco-Roman antiquity was preserved through monks, especially the Benedictines, who gradually built a new civilization, ours.

Point of fact, where was us in 5th century b c? We was plundering Rome again. Yes, we repeatedly okay plundered Rome before the Roman Empire. Later we plundered it afterwards too. I don’t read anything of Fuentes. I consider him to be a wiseguy and a hotshot, but he and Hitler are alike in thinking the ancient Germans weren’t very great. The Americans are always shown as a bit crude and unable to mix, and are seen by the natives as conquerers and outsiders…which, in N. Mexico, we still kind of are. I think you and your family would enjoy Cather’s love of the region and its people.

Christina: Adrianople took place in 378 ad. The emperor Valens sought to destroy the Goths, but the Goths outflanked them and destroyed the Roman army and Valens. it really broke Rome’s power. They never recovered from it. War does decide things, but as Harold Covington said, wars, especially colonial wars, are decided not by generals but the clerks…when the government runs out of money. If you want a really esoteric book about the classical world, try The Ethiopian Romance (the Aethiopica), written by Helidorus in the third century AD. it’s the one complete novel we have from the classical world, dealing with the lovers Theagenes and Chariclea and their adventures, esp. since she is the child of the king and queen of Ethiopia, is kept by Egyptian priests, and it’s pretty lively. it reads like an adventure romance, with lots of fun and moves fast. Best to read the translation by Moses Hadas. I did a review of Gibbon’s The Decline of the Roman Empire for the online journal Countercurrents.

I had four German exes in my life, well one was Austrian. She was a brunette but strickingly beautiful German features. She later became a noted politician. Another German girlfriend looked like one of those movie star good looking Nazi beauties. Similar to those dancers in that old 1980s song Twighlight Zone from Golden Earring complete with the black hat and form fitting sometimes leather clothes. She was from East Germany and a true Prossion as they say in Germany. She disappeared when the Wall came down. The third was part Prossion and Saxon blonde and very pretty. She had a standard life with a middle manager and kids. The fourth was from Central Germany and part Bavarian. She looked the least German of any of the others, but pretty enough. She ended up having two kids which oddly enough looked more German than she.
That’s not including all the Germans I knew from the armed forces who frankly were way cooler than my American comesdes except for those in our Special operations or some of our armored units. The later were just emulating the Germans I think which was a big thing back at the end of the Cold War and the first few years of the 90s. I remember their German Air Force pilots were some of the most dashing and coolest dudes I ever met with their scarves, cigarettes, and talking about bombing missions straight out of Luffwaffe WWII legend. I now meet people who swear they are Germans and all I think is they are Bosnians or Serbs. Maybe Gypsies. Havent met a German soldier for 10 years and the last one was a woman. She was a brunette reasonably pretty for a toss in the hay.
The Germans of Tacitus or the Medieval era, when many had Red hair, and the rest either Auburn or Blonde with a few brunettes and overwhelmingly blue and grey and green eyes and Nordic, I think are gone. The last time German were noted for redness was back in the late 19th century. My piano teacher who was born in 1917 and whose father was killed in WWI and who had Red hair according to her, was a German with Strawberry Blonde hair. Even in her 60s she was strickingly pretty. I think what happened is the Blondes, who might be actually Slavs captured as serfs and slaves, became dominant, caused massive war which wiped out most of the old Germans and then the post 1960s leftwing era reduced native birthrates and immigration has swamped the remainder. Possibly if they kicked all the foreigners out, brought back American and Anglo sphere German and British and Irish descended people and innaddition settled some Dutch and Scandinavians, say around 10-15 million, the genetics and demographics would reset and it could be restored.
