Donald Trump Keeps Up The Pressure For $2,000 Stimulus Checks

I’ve given Donald Trump a hard time for years.

From the outset though, I have criticized him for straying from the substance of his nationalist and populist message that got him elected president in the first place in 2016. Now that he is in a spiteful mood and nursing a big chip on his shoulder against Senate Republicans, the old combative Trump seems to have resurfaced in this push for $2,000 stimulus checks.

The Hill:

“Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said Friday night after spending part of the day with President Trump that the president is “more determined than ever” to stick by his demand for bigger stimulus payments for Americans than those approved by Congress in a bill passed this week.

Graham’s remarks come as Trump and Congress are locked in a standoff over the size of payments to millions of Americans as part of the latest COVID-19 relief bill, after the House and Senate overwhelmingly passed legislation that Trump has criticized and not signed, putting it in limbo.

“After spending some time with President @realDonaldTrump today, I am convinced he is more determined than ever to increase stimulus payments to $2000 per person and challenge Section 230 big tech liability protection,” Graham tweeted on Friday night. …”

The conventional wisdom is now that Trump lost the 2020 election because he strayed from his message of economic populism. The Democrats are openly relieved that he was successfully coopted by the GOP and campaigned and lost on their unpopular losing platform.

Now that he has nothing to lose, Trump is at least acting on Twitter like the man we elected back in 2016. Imagine where he would be now if he had taken COVID more seriously and campaigned on $2,000 instead of Jared Kushner and the GOP’s messaging. Unlike Senate Republicans, the Democrats in Georgia are campaigning on $2,000 because they aren’t politically stupid.

  1. If you have a GOP senator or congressman call and tell them you will never vote for them or any other republican again if they do not pass the $2,000.00.
If you have a democrat congressman or senator, you don’t need to call because they are already in favor of this proposal of Trump’s. Never thought I’d see the day I’d write something like this. I was a conservative republican activist in my younger days and now I can’t stand the GOP or conservatives, with very rare exceptions.
Once your eyes are opened, you can’t un-see what you have seen.

  2. Another person on fire is VP Mike Pence – see clip below

Pence is said to be ready to use his powers 6 January to give Trump the election win; the story goes like this:

Pence is in charge of counting and accepting the votes of the presidential electors on 6 January

Legal memoranda interpret the US Constitution as saying that the Vice President has the authority and obligation to reject presented electoral vote slates by US states, which the VP believes are the result of fraud … and Pence is getting NSA briefings on the intel here which he can use to make a judgement

From 7 states there are two duelling groups of electors, one for Trump, one for Biden

After Pence creates election-count controvery with electoral slates being rejected, the Constitution then prescribes that the US Congress House picks the new President, voting in blocs by state … and the majority of states are Republican … Trump would win

Mike Pence speaking the other day on the election, 1 minute clip … he seems quite confident, like he actually might do this … just larping?

    • @Brabantian…

I think Vice-President Pence understands the deep issues at play here and will not back up.

Though Pence is an establishment guy who prefers not to ruffle feathers, he demonstrated as governor of Indiana that he was prepared to do so, over LGBT matters.

      • @Powell…

        Here we go again.

        LOL!

Vice-President Pence is on record (see the link above left by Brabantian) as saying he will fight to have all legal votes counted and all illegal discarded.

That can only mean one thing – that he intends to use his powers as Senate President on January 6, to decertify the current results and throw the Congress into debating which slate of electors to accept, if to accept any at all.

Just for the record : are you saying you do not believe him?

      • Dear Powell,

You were right and i was wrong.

I am very sorry that it is so, not because i begrudge you being right or are troubled that I was wrong, but, that it means that Vice-President Pence, a kind Christian man, does not have the inner mettle to rise to this moment.

After praying, he looked for an excuse and then acted like the judiciary.

I am sorry that this country has such weak-kneed people at the helm, but, in failure is always born success, and we will look to see what sort of better leaders events throw up.

In any case, all my best to you and yours, Sir!

  3. Where was this Trump for the last four years?

After watching President Trump carefully for 5 years, I believe that he is at his best in a street fight.

Moreover, I believe that his former illusions, that the Establishment would ever accept him, are finally completely gone.

I think he understands that The Republican Party is gone, as well, and that the fight he once labeled, ‘Make America Great Again’, is deeper and more desperate than even he thought.

This is a big reason why I think a second Trump term would be a much better term than the first and it is the second reason, not the first, why I support him with every fibre in my soul.

His fight not to be cheated is a fight made for every man.

Last, I think one of the many motives he had for threatening to veto The ‘China Pox Relief Bill for Pakistani would-be transgenders, is because he, furious at McConnell’s treachery and cowardice, was only too happy to find a way to troll him.

And what a marvelous trolling this has been!

  4. Wow, a lousy 2000$ for the peasants while govt cronies, special interests and foreign countries get millions. That’s a fair trade.

  5. Apparently the loathsome Republicans want to lose both Senate seats in Georgia. Ok, ok, you get what you want for Christmas you loathsome Republican bastards!

    • @12AX7…

Given ‘the system’ of voting they have down in Georgia, do you really believe there is anything they, Perdue & Loeffler, could, or could not do, that would change the results?

  6. It takes a special kind of stupid to alienate both Russia and China with countless anti Russian and Anti-Chinese statements. Has the United States never heard of balance of power politics like the British Empire practiced for decades? The exceptional nation is not so exceptional if it thinks it can defeat China and Russia simultaneously. At least Oceania did not try to take on Eastasia and Eurasia at the same time. The greatest enemy is the enemy within. That is what Yockey called the inner enemy. Look for him not in Beijing or Moscow because he is in Washington DC, Hollywood, and New York City. There you the political, cultural, and financial forces that are driving us to the brink of extinction. It is the great Tri-axis of evil!

  7. If the president had line item veto, as did the Confederate president, bloated budgets like this would never see the light of day!
