2026 had so many memorable moments ? https://t.co/jGytKuHOrX

If Charlie Kirk hadn’t been assassinated last September, would our timeline be any different?
“I remember the morning Charlie Kirk was shot. I was sitting at my desk in Washington State when my social media timeline started to buzz with news of an assassination attempt in Utah. At first, some reports said he was being treated and, for a while, many hoped might survive. Soon, those messages faded and the reports grew more ominous. An assassin had shot Charlie through the neck and killed him.
I was devastated. I spent the next week in a daze, speaking to people across the conservative movement. That week, many felt that the tragedy might have a silver lining, that Charlie’s death might move people to set aside petty differences and come together for the good of the country. That was his mission and, for a moment, it seemed that everyone was trying to honor it.
Instead, his death marked the shattering of the American Right. …”
I doubt it.
By the time Charlie Kirk was assassinated, Trump had already made a number of key decisions that cost Republicans the midterms. He did the Liberation Day tariffs. He started the war with Iran in Operation Midnight Hammer. He had Kristi Noem stoking chaos in the performative ICE raids. He had denounced his “former supporters” who believed in the Jeffrey Epstein hoax. He started the purge of Thomas Massie from Congress. The U.S. military had begun to attack Venezuelan drug smuggling boats. He had announced plans for the White House Ballroom. He was fully behind building AI data centers.
Trump didn’t change his economic messaging after Charlie Kirk’s death. He has consistently said we are living in the Golden Age of America with the greatest economy ever. He has consistently conflated the economy with the stock market. The housing bill passed Congress. Trump refused to sign it. Trump also has a long history of micromanaging the Republican Party, purging dissenters and endorsing terrible candidates who flatter him and who go on to lose key Senate races like Herschel Walker. Charlie Kirk was never able to steer Trump away from his close relationship with Lindsey Graham.
If Charlie Kirk had lived, Trump would have still done Venezuela. He was already headed in that direction when he was alive. The success in Venezuela would have still emboldened him to launch the war with Iran for Israel. The plan was always to do regime change in Iran, Cuba and Venezuela in 2026. Trump spent much of his first term trying to install Juan Guaido in power in Venezuela. With or without Charlie Kirk, the Iran War would have been a disaster and would have sank Trump’s second term.
Personally, the moment that followed the death of Iryna Zarutska was the last time that I entertained the hope that Trump could reverse course and salvage his second term. By that point, I was already off the Trump Train over Midnight Hammer and Epstein. Venezuela was the point of no return. I remember my view of the Trump administration steadily darkening after last October. Without the Charlie Kirk assassination, the only major difference is that polarizing figures like Mark Levin and Ben Shapiro wouldn’t have dominated the online conversation on X in the year that followed Kirk’s death.
Charlie Kirk would have ended up having to defend Trump’s terrible decisions like all the other Trump influencers in 2026. He would have ended up eating shit like Benny Johnson. He spent his final days arguing with the Jewish donors who ultimately prevailed and got their way and birthed this result. They are the coalition arsonists who wrecked the American Right.
