CNN Ratings Plunge

Where did Ted Turner go?

Georgia

More good news.

The Independent (UK) is reporting that CNN (sometimes dubbed the “Communist News Network”) has suffered a 50 percent loss of viewership:

“Figures from ratings agency Nielsen show that America’s most famous rolling news brand has just experienced its worst month for almost 20 years, parting company with more than 50 per cent of its audience in 12 months. The development follows years of unrelenting decline for the network, which pioneered 24-hour news in the 1980s, and was for years the top-rated news channel.”

How did CNN get to be so bad? It wasn’t always that way. CNN was a key component of Ted Turner’s Atlanta based media empire based and was successfully challenging the New York/Los Angeles axis of media control.

Once upon a time, Ted Turner’s CNN was a shining bright light amidst the dark and dreary nightscape of the American media scene. Then Turner made some bad business and personal choices.

Here is a reposting of an excellent Instauration article that explains what went wrong:

“Born into an upper middle-class Southern family his father, who committed suicide, was a billboard millionaire- Ted first broke into the news as an America’s Cup-winning yachtsman. We next hear about him as a pioneer in “all news” TV. He seems to have pushed the right button. Against all odds CNN soon became a fourth network, one based in Atlanta, far away from the baleful influence of Zoo City. So far so good. A conservative Southern yachtsman, a handsome, prototypical Nordic, takes on the TV establishment and not only manages to survive but gives the big boys a run for their money.

But Turner didn’t know when to stop. He bought the rights for the cinematic treasure chest of old MGM films. He tried unsuccessfully to take over CBS, all the while boasting that he would never sign on to any deal from which he would not emerge as boss. By the 1980s Ted was a world-class magnate on the way to becoming another Rupert Murdoch. Jet-setting back and forth from Atlanta, New York and los Angeles, he bought a clutch of mansions and huge spreads of Western ranchland (768,000 acres in all, about three-quarters the size of Rhode Island). He reached the pinnacle of the American power pyramid when Larry King deigned to interview him. But then it all started to fall apart. The Southern conservative spent so much time with the “beautiful people” of Bel Air that he could not avoid meeting Jane Fonda, she Hanoi Jane stirring up the peaceniks at an anti-Vietnam War rally of the uplifted breasts and reconstructed face. When Hanoi Jane stood on a tank in North Vietnam praising Uncle Ho and urging the gooks to press the fight against the sorely pressed G.l.s this was race treason par excellence. Ted kissed it off as ancient history.

The erstwhile all-American boy up and married this air-headed Hollywood retread whose husbands had run the gamut from a French cineast and boulevardier to the ineffable ex-Weatherman, Tom Hayden. Jane now claims she has put all this behind her, though she has kept her 300-square-foot clothes closet and its contents. Ted’s Gone With the Wind wedding to Jane on his 8,100 acre Florida plantation was the last gasp of his Southernness. The clergyman clergyman who did the honors was Black. as was the best man. Marrying a squalid movie star who preferred the occupants of the Kremlin to the occupants of the Gerald levin, Ted’s boss White House was enough in itself to qualify Ted for Majority Renegade. But there is more. The man who promised he would always be the boss of all he surveyed sold Turner Broadcasting System, parent of CNN, to the all-Jewish Time Warner conglomerate.

He got a carload of stock, but as second in command, as Vice Chairman, he now has to report to Time Warner Chairman, Gerald Levin, who is most definitely not an American boy. But there is more. Possibly inspired by skipping his lithium for a few days, the all-important pill that keeps his penduluming manic-depressive condition from getting too manic, Ted grandiosely announced he was going to give $1 billion in $100-million-a-year installments to the United Nations. Not to the poor and needy of his own country, not to the revival of America’s petrified arts, but to the bloated bureaucracy of the United Nations. Most of the money will probably end up in the itchy palms of corrupt black African strongmen.

Reviewing the past and present doings of Ted Turner, one is hard put not to nominate him Majority Renegade of 1997. As a matter of fact he is well qualified to be Majority Renegade of the Century.”

  1. Was Vietnam fought as the Guns part of Johnson’s preferred Butter?

    Gun’s N Butter

Integrated military. Yay. Vietnamese killing you so blacks behind can frag you!
Jane was right to try to wind it all up.

  2. Indeed John. I wish there were a way to address militaristic hegemony without seeming like an a-hole but I’m pretty sure it’s impossible. Military worship falls right after Jew worship and right before minority worship in the American trinity.

  3. As an aside, but to show how the corruptness of our “elite”, the left went after the Trump boys over hunting in Africa. Since the left is a mess and all the adults have ceded control to the leaders of all the cults it blew up in their faces and the Trumps and hunting prevailed. But what is so telling is that one of Ted’s sons has a hunting show that is produced by one of the foundations that the Turners have set up. So every week they place a high powered weapon in the hand of a child who then goes out and bags some nice animals off Turner land, the left says nada. It really is a racket and if they could think of way to make a buck off of white supremacy we would be addressing HW as “Boss.”

  4. I don’t even “get” the attraction that Ted had to Hanoi Jane.

Not only is she noxious in her thought processes, she wasn’t even a young hottie back in 1990 (being 53 at the time) which at least would be an explanation — that Ted was thinking with his little head.

Something else was going on there. I don’t know what. Blackmail for something? I don’t believe in witchcraft, but, man, it looks like witchcraft.

Sometimes you see some weird sheiss. Black zombies eating faces off White bums; White tradition-minded tycoons marrying old feminista hags.

  5. A skilled woman can turn even the strongest man into putty. I’m not surprised it happened. I’m surprised it lasted so long.

    Jack Ryan responds:

Yes, you are quite correct Barb, there was something else going on here as Jane Fonda was not a young “hottie” when Ted Turner married her.

Ted Turner was trying to make the big leap to make it in…

Hollywood society, the international Jet set, LA, New York, London – Lib/Left elite. He thought that Jane Fonda with all her Hollywood/Left connections would allow Ted Turner to break out of his Georgia, Southern regionalism – to become a glamorous Kennedy type person. It didn’t work and the key was that no matter how much Turner tried to position himself as a Liberal/PC supporter of the United Nations, not a White racialist Southern Conservative, the Jewish media Mafia saw him as a White Gentile threat, the same as Walt Disney.

Even thought Ted Turner presented himself as a Liberal/Leftist, Turner’s CNN was very different from the Jewish LA/New York media, Turner’s CNN employed folks like Pat Buchanan and didn’t push anti White propaganda. When Turner sold out to Jerald Levin’s Time Warner Inc – that was all she wrote.

  7. So you’re saying it wasn’t Jane, herself, that Ted wanted. She was just an avenue that he thought he could travel to get what to he *really* wanted — the chance to hobnob with high society.

Okay, Jack, but *why* did he want to make the “big leap” of making it it Lib/Left/Hollywood high society?

Why was *that* such a desirable plum to him? I think if we could parse out the answer THAT question, then we’d know where the weak link is in White man that caused our Yankee elites to sell us out to the jews — and what to do about it.

  8. Sorry to interject here, but Jane allowed him to escape his white man’s burden, his original sin. To make the leap outside of himself. If it were easy for men to bear the burden of civilization, we wouldn’t be where we are. It’s not that complex.

  9. Very, very, few of us are generally able to forsake social networks like that. He wanted the acceptance of who he saw as his peers, and did what it took to get it, atleast thats my take on the whole thing. A similar effect plays out in DC in all likelyhood, and that is why we have to bust the machine politics, and restore the pre-20th century incumbent retention rate(50% rather than 95%).

  10. I’ve seen how money has the ability to corrupt people and make them say things they don’t believe. That’s why I have tried to keep OD a fundraising free zone.

I remember watching and enjoying TBS and TNT as a kid. Then somewhere along the line Turner sold out to Time Warner and CNN went to shit.

    Jack Ryan replies:

I also remember TBS – it had a very distinctly good Southern flavor. TBS covered the Atlanta Braves baseball team (had some good announcers with Southern accents – one of the sons of Sox/Cubs announcer Harey Carey, was it Skip Carey?). TBS also featured re-runs of the Andy Griffith Show, my choice for the best all White show in American TV history.

  12. “but Jane allowed him to escape his white man’s burden, his original sin.”

I don’t quite get what you mean. Explain, please.

Because, if anything, when Ted donated a billion bux to non-White-promoting U.N., Ted fully shouldered his White Man’s Burden, at least as I understand the meaning, as in Kipling’s poem: to caretake the lesser (i.e., nonWhite) men.

Libtardism is NOTHING if not shouldering the White Man’s Burden. Us “raycisss” White Nationalists who want nothing to do with the mud races are eeeevvillll BECAUSE we don’t want to provide for them.

“The Andy Griffith Show isn’t the best White TV show it’s damn near the best”

And the Dick Van Dyke Show. A white, kinda nerdy, kinda clumsy, kinda beta guy, but very funny. But still the leader in his family: Sayeth Laura in a crisis, Oh, Rooooobbb!
And the two of them, a team, raising a delightful White boy (with hopefully more at some point). That’s my image of America as she ought to be.

  13. “And the Dick Van Dyke Show. A white, kinda nerdy, kinda clumsy, kinda beta guy, but very funny”

IIRC Dick Van Dyke, as funny as he was, was sort of a stand-in/sock puppet for Carl Reiner, who had wanted to play the role himself I believe.

So, not so white as you thought.

  14. “IIRC Dick Van Dyke, as funny as he was, was sort of a stand-in/sock puppet for Carl Reiner, who had wanted to play the role himself I believe.”

Sock puppet? Van Dyke gets no credit for his own talent? He was himself a very talented comedic actor, particularly in physical humor. His penguin dance in Mary Poppins is iconic.

The Hays code censorship system prevented the Jews in Hollywood of that era from peddling their trash on TV, which they commenced immediately upon revocation.
    Bring it back.

  15. Hays code while well intentioned became reactionary, hence it became a sitting dead duck. Modern culture is junk, but shrieking like a 1950s conservative at it only feeds the beast.

It is to be laughed at, and when you are not laughing at it you should be asking questions of it and the people who adopt it. But we conservatives are trained to shriek and we even send our hard earned money to professional shriekers and hence we are innefective.

  16. White man’s burden is more than financially helping the less privileged. That’s the easy way out. White man’s burden is maintaining civilization and the boring cultural mores that entails. The aura of the kind of release from real responsibility that a woman like Jane Fonda and the Hollywood lifestyle represents would be tempting to almost any man. The gift to the UN I believe was a confessional act to himself and those he attempted to ingratiate himself with in apology for trying to be something he wasn’t. I’m not sure even he recognizes this. It looks to me like he’s trying to fill a hole he never knew existed until it was empty. That hole: the white man’s burden. And it can’t be filled with money. Does he look happy to you?

  17. Jane told Ted he was the biggest she’s ever seen and the rest is history…. He says she was the love of his life. Sounds like two egomaniacs stroking each other.

They say some men go after certain women because of the men they’ve been with. Mabe Ted secretly wants to do Tom. Hey, ya never know.

  18. Typical profile of an activist.

    “Activism & Depression” ( by a commoner)

I’ve struggled with melancholy since early youth-ranging from suicidal crisis-to blanketing sorrow-to months of numb depression. Sometimes sadness comes when I see a styrofoam cup and think about the environmental damage our society is causing; when I think about rape and war; or when I think about a friend in an abusive relationship. Sometimes I’m sad for no clear reason. Feeling sad about the world, and tending toward depression in general, has been a major motivating force for my activism, yet conversely, that same sensitivity can have a paralyzing effect which prevents me from being the non-stop activist I idealize. Learning to work with my depression, rather than against it has been necessary. I learn to try to flow with my moods, fighting the sorrow less, accepting the melancholy into my life as a teacher who keeps me in touch with the destruction of the planet.

    etc.

  19. Sorry, not Silas Marner. I can’t remember the damn name of the story about the new industrialist trying to ingratiate himself to the old elite and generally failing. Turn of the century or a little later.
