Poll Watch: U.S. Political Preferences Shifted Greatly During 2021

As Joe Lockhart lamented yesterday on Reliable Sources, a year of obsessive 1/6 coverage by East Coast elite journos has failed to return a “dividend” for Joe Biden and the Democrats. Instead, Americans have responded negatively to the incompetence, inflation and witch hunting that has been on such prominent display all year coming out of the Brandon administration.

Gallup:

“WASHINGTON, D.C. — On average, Americans’ political party preferences in looked similar to prior years, with slightly more U.S. adults identifying as Democrats or leaning Democratic (46%) than identified as Republicans or leaned Republican (43%).

However, the general stability for the full-year average obscures a dramatic shift over the course of 2021, from a nine-percentage-point Democratic advantage in the first quarter to a rare five-point Republican edge in the fourth quarter.

The GOP has held as much as a five-point advantage in a total of only four quarters since 1991. The Republicans last held a five-point advantage in party identification and leaning in early 1995, after winning control of the House of Representatives for the first time since the 1950s. Republicans had a larger advantage only in the first quarter of 1991, after the U.S. victory in the Persian Gulf War led by then-President George H.W. Bush.

The year 2021 was an eventful one in politics, after a similarly eventful 2020 that also saw major shifts in party preferences. In early 2021, Democratic strength reached levels not seen in nearly a decade. By the third quarter, those Democratic gains evaporated as Biden’s job approval declined. The political winds continued to become more favorable to Republicans in the fourth quarter, giving the GOP an advantage over Democrats larger than any they had achieved in more than 25 years. …”

John Kass:

“A former friend of mine, let’s call him Maximilien, once seemed to me to be reasonable man who prided himself on his apolitical intellectual honesty. At least when I knew him. Now Max is consumed by this same self-righteous zeal. He loathed former President Donald Trump, but I didn’t hold his political beliefs against him.

Yet now in Max’s eyes, all Republicans are fascists. And all conservatives are domestic enemies who must be shamed and marginalized. I expect to see him someday at the head of a tribunal.

Max is not alone. …”

Evidently, “domestic extremism” won 2021.

There is only so much shit that the public can take from these people.

  1. More than anything else, I think this shows how callow and fickle, and therefore lacking in principles, the average American (whatever that means currently) is today — their ‘political preferences’ seem to depend largely on extant conditions like ‘muh economy’, rather than any held beliefs.

    • Or the ones who vote for who’s the best looking.
So many whites talk about who would “be good” as president, and they make their choices based on race (nonwhite) and gender (female).
