Israel-Hezbollah Reach Ceasefire Agreement

What happened?

I was told that Donald Trump is an ultra Zionist and that tens of thousands of White men were about to die for Israel. Instead, Israel ended the war in Lebanon as a “gift” to Trump who ran on winding down the wars. The “Axis of Resistance” agreed to it and threw Hamas under the bus.

New York Times:

“Finally, President Biden got his Rose Garden peace deal. It was not exactly the one he has been straining to land for most of the past year, but it was a breakthrough nonetheless — and, coming after a bitter election, a sweet moment of validation.

The question is whether the cease-fire in Lebanon that Mr. Biden announced on Tuesday will be the coda to his diplomatic efforts in the Middle East or a steppingstone to more sweeping agreements that could at last end the devastating war in Gaza and potentially even set the stage for a broader regional transformation.

If it holds, the Lebanon cease-fire by itself could make an important difference. It was designed to restore stability along the border between Israel and Lebanon, permitting hundreds of thousands of displaced civilians on both sides to return to their homes while providing a buffer zone to ensure Israeli security and offering an opportunity for Lebanon’s government to reassert control over its territory from a weakened Hezbollah.

But as he stepped out of the Oval Office into the Rose Garden on a sunny November day in the winter of his presidency to hail the agreement on Tuesday, Mr. Biden clearly had grander ambitions still in mind. “It reminds us that peace is possible,” he said. “I say that again: Peace is possible. As long as that is the case, I’ll not for a single moment stop working to achieve it.” …”

Granted, the ceasefire is only for 60 days, but a previous agreement ended the last war in 2006. Hezbollah and Iran aren’t interested in a war with the United States. Israel is also exhausted from war.

The Conversation:

“The timing of this ceasefire is the result of a convergence of interests among the government in Israel, Hezbollah itself and that of its chief sponsor, Iran – but all for different reasons.

For the Israeli government, domestic issues are at play. First off, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are exhausted after more than a year of war. This is particularly true for Israeli reservists, a growing number of whom are not turning up for duty. The Israeli general public, too, is tired of conflict, and a majority favors a ceasefire with Hezbollah.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also has internal issues in his government to contend with. He is facing pressure from the ruling coalition’s ultra-Orthodox partners to draw up laws exempting ultra-Orthodox Jews from the military draft.

Reducing the need for active personnel by quieting the front with Lebanon will help in that regard. The secular and national-religious sectors of the society who do serve in the IDF and who are upset with the possibility of a formal draft-exemption law for ultra-Orthodox men may be more inclined to swallow this pill if the war with Hezbollah is over. …”

Oh wait …

The same people who predicted Trump would unleash Armageddon in the Middle East for Israel also thought Kamala Harris was going to win Pennsylvania and the election.

  1. When in the United States I hear much about how America believes in International Law and order etc. So an arrest order is issued for Netanyahu and some deranged politician named Lindsay Graham threatens even the allies of the United States with financial ruin if that warrant is honored.

That sounds like a thug not a representative of the exceptional nation.

So much for the idea of upholding international law and the rule of order.

  2. At least wait until Trump is actually in power before you determine whether he is winding the middle east down or blowing it up
