Yes. The Russians and Chinese have been ramping up supplies to the Iranians. It also looks like the intelligence community under estimated the extent of the Islamist underground defenses. So, my take is some of our forces found something and forced the Sand N@ggers to come out and fight. Underestimating enemies and overestimating our capabilities has been a recurring problem in the IC and especially our policy making community.
Trump meanwhile failed to mobilize our forces enough unbeknownst to me, and has typically TACOed on opening up the Straight when realizing the correlation of forces wasn’t as favorable as he thought. Meanwhile, the IDF is still fighting a multifront war and has little operational reserves left to engage in an expeditionary war far into Iran. Plus, sending in the IDF into Iran would be absolutely the wrong thing to do from a political image perspective. Having their special forces and Intel there is a different story.
