White nationalism is frequently thrown around in the media as an epithet to attack right-wingers. Liberals rely on a broad definition so they can apply it to anyone they like.
But white nationalism is a concrete thing with grand ambitions of creating its own ethnostate… pic.twitter.com/Wh2Se4nsq8
Fair enough.
I have plenty of my own criticisms of White Nationalism.
As Scott Greer says, White Nationalism might be “a self-defeating political fantasy rather than a vehicle for change,” but I would argue the same is true of MAGA which has wasted over a decade of our lives and left us worse off than we were when Donald Trump came down the escalator in 2015. If White Nationalism is a political fantasy, then it is at least one centered on White people and their future and interests. It is not a cult of personality based on blind faith and sycophantic worship of a reality television host.
“I’ve always preferred “right-winger” or just nationalist to describe my political beliefs. But with the transformation of the mainstream American Right, I find myself more comfortable with the label “conservative.” Conservatism now largely reflects Dissident Right views and translates those opinions into policy changes and widely shared talking points. If you care about curtailing immigration and anti-white racism, normal politics offers the best way to do so. There’s no reason to marginalize oneself with LARPing. …
WNs wish to transform white Americans into something they will likely never be. White Americans are not interested in the identity offered by white nationalists. Very few whites see their racial identity as important. They identify more with America than they do with being white. Even conservatives who oppose mass immigration wince at explicit white identity. There are few indicators of whites “tribing up.” …
The goals of groups posing as radicals are achievable by normal political means. In the past this was less clear. But today it’s obvious that a practical, America First policy can be advanced via boring party politics. And the people who argue against this simply want to cling to a personal fantasy. …
The goal of right-wing policy is to improve middle American living standards. All this can be accomplished by ordinary politics. The GOP and a conventional conservative platform can now be considered “pro-white.” As readers of Whitepill should learn, white nationalism is now obsolete thanks to the mainstream Right taking up the identity issues. …
If that makes us conservative, then so be it. We now get to define conservatism, not David French or Jonah Goldberg.”
MAGA wasn’t a vehicle of change.
It wasn’t about anything other than stroking Donald Trump’s ego. Yes, the Republican Party has changed under Trump, but it is now organized around flattering the president. Every critic of Israel in Congress has been purged and silenced for the benefit of AIPAC and the Republican Jewish Coalition. Trump’s legacy will be the party of Lindsey Graham, Randy Fine, Vivek Ramaswamy and Byron Donalds.
In 2026, we have lived through Trump’s first term, the Biden era reaction to Trump and we are now halfway through Trump’s second term. The Trump era is over 85% complete. I was also hopeful and voted for Trump myself two times, but did Trump succeed in “Making America Great Again”? How will we be great in 2029 when Trump leaves office and hands over power to the next Democrat president?
There are millions of more illegal aliens and legal immigrants in America in 2026 than in 2016. Whites have declined from about 61% of the American population in 2016 to 56% of the population in 2026. Racial demographics haven’t improved and have only gotten worse under Trump. We are still on track to a White minority future with Georgia becoming the most recent state to lose its White majority.
Donald Trump hasn’t made immigration or anti-White discrimination any better. Immigration to the United States has still accelerated over the last 10 years. Explicit anti-White discrimination went mainstream in 2020 and during Joe Biden’s presidency. Instead of a steady stream of illegal immigration across the border and refugees and immigrants coming in legally, we have only shifted to pauses and floods. Trump’s immigration policies have only impeded immigration like a stop sign. MAGA has polarized immigration enforcement and anti-White discrimination and transformed both into partisan issues. This helps Republican politicians get elected, but we end up losing more than we gain from it when the pendulum swings in the other direction. As our demographic decline accelerates, the GOP has only created a partisan incentive structure to lock in our votes and keep us coming back for more.
If I was making a steel man case for a Trump era realignment of American politics by the New Right, I would point to South African refugees. I could point to Supreme Court decisions on affirmative action and making it easier to sue for anti-White discrimination. I would point to the pause in illegal immigration at the border. The strongest arguments for the New Right, however, can be easily knocked down. There is no reason to believe South African refugees are anything more than partisan political pawns. The refugee resettlement program will snap back on the first day on the next Democratic administration. The border will snap back again like it did on the first day of the Biden administration. The administrative obstacles to legal immigration will be easily dismantled. “Mass deportations” haven’t happened under Trump in spite of ICE receiving upwards of $70 billion under the Big Beautiful Bill.. “Mass importations” under Joe Biden were very real and we have every reason to believe will resume under the next Democrat president.
We should be skeptical of the impact of Supreme Court decisions. Pro-life Inc., for example, didn’t really win anything when the monumental Dobbs decision came down in 2022. Abortion in the United States actually went up after Dobbs. Far from winning the culture war, the pro-life cause lost ground and political influence. In spite of all the happy talk from Christopher Rufo about dismantling DEI, non-Hispanic Whites aren’t surging in Ivy League universities. Young White men aren’t being hired en masse in Corporate America and it is only going to get worse because of Trump’s AI policies. As Scott Greer admits, even professional conservatism after 11 years of MAGA remains hostile to White identity politics. The New Right hasn’t even changed the culture on the Right much less in elite institutions. These people couldn’t get a Claremonster like Jeremy Carl through a Senate confirmation hearing because of “antisemitism.”
Americans do not believe the Trump administration is interested in improving American living standards. Trump’s erratic use of tariffs as weapons has made tariffs unpopular. Trump spent his political capital in both terms on passing conventional Republican corporate tax cuts. He is responsible for over a quarter of the national debt which has gone up by trillions during his two terms in office. The American standard of living and the purchasing power of the dollar has only declined since Trump set out to “Make America Great Again” in 2015. Prices for virtually everything were lower when Obama was president. The Dow Jones Industrial Average has gone up from 19,827 on the day Trump was sworn into office in his first term in 2017 to 52,933 though as of this afternoon. We are living in the “Golden Age” for billionaire asset holders who in Trump’s mind are synonymous with the economy. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt recently dismissed all the lazy Zoomers who are whining about the Golden Age for not having real jobs. The hard working people with real jobs live off passive income from their investment portfolios.
After spending over a decade styling himself as the “America First” and “no new wars” president, Trump took America to war with Iran for Israel. MAGA Republicans are the only group in the country who support Trump’s war with Iran. They lined up to vote for Ed Gallrein over Thomas Massie and Lindsey Graham over Mark Lynch. Republicans in Congress have repeatedly voted against the War Powers Resolution to keep the war going. More than anything else, this proved the bankruptcy of the metapolitical case for supporting Trump. MAGA is a cult of personality that doesn’t care about ideas. It has a long history of destroying people who care about the “ideas” – Jeff Sessions, Thomas Massie, Marjorie Taylor Greene, etc. No one over the past decade did more to popularize “Alt-Right ideas” than Tucker Carlson and he is now a reviled figure among MAGA Republicans. MAGA’s biggest idea for years was what Greer has labeled “Critical Pedo Theory.” They have since dismissed that idea as a “Democrat hoax.” MAGA held the people accountable who wanted to hold the Epstein class accountable!
Scott Greer’s case for MAGA rests largely on the adoption of these “Alt-Right ideas” which in his account of the Trump era has rendered White Nationalism obsolete. It is true that the Trump administration has adopted Alt-Right rhetoric like “remigration” and “mass deportations” as buzzwords. DHS even initially tweeted out of images of illegal aliens in chains being loaded onto cargo planes to create the impression that “remigration” was happening. Trump’s Republican Party has adopted these “ideas” and transformed them into dog whistles to excite and activate disaffected low propensity voters. “Alt-Right ideas” and rhetoric was cynically used as bait to neutralize criticism and to get Trump back into power for he could deliver on all the things his donors wanted like AI data centers and war with Iran for Israel. The National Conservatism conference is being held this year in Jerusalem. Does this prove that we have arrived and “nationalism” has gone mainstream in conservatism and the Republican Party or is “nationalism” being weaponized and worn as a skinsuit by more nefarious actors with their own agenda?
The truth is that Donald Trump is a narcissist who has built a structure based on his own enrichment and self aggrandizement. Subservience to Trump is its sole guiding principle and Trump himself is deeply unpopular and leaving office in two years and is poised to leave his party in ruins. There hasn’t been any enduring metapolitical transformation of Republican ideology. Greer brags that this isn’t the party of Jonah Goldberg. It is the party of Mark Levin which pursues a regime change war of choice in Iran for Israel and purges and ostracizes anyone who criticizes it. It is a party in which Jewish donors call the shots.
Maybe we should give White Nationalism a second look? It explains why we ended up here.
Greer is indeed a white nationalist. Spencer is a slimeball but a broken clock is right twice a day, etc. Greer was part of the DC Altright clique. Greer was part of the Wolves of Vinland. Greer’s Michael McGregor wrote explicitly white nationalist essays on Radixjournal for years. Greer has always positioned the GOP as a vehicle for white power, a tactic that has no basis in reality. Greer constantly takes swipes at blacks and preemptively celebrates the Great Replacement because it is allegedly replacing blacks more than whites. Greer denies the label for the same reason Spencer does; both of their lives are completely ruined and they need to keep up appearances in the hopes of getting out of prison some day. It’s all fake. Spencer is stuck in August 2017 forever. Greer pathetically is stuck in 2015 forever.
He’s a disillusioned White Nationalist who has latched onto this fantasy of reforming the GOP because 1.) his lack of confidence in the movement and 2.) because it requires so little of him. He can be smug, practical and white pilled as the guy holding Trump’s beer. This is just as delusional though as anything the craziest White Nationalists believe.
I will add that I don’t believe this in 2026 because I am honest. It was wishful thinking.
Like the GOP harnessed the New Right energy to get in power in 2024 only to turn policy over to the donors, Dems will harness the Mamdani/AOC hard left to get out their vote – and then promptly continue the war in Iran to appease their own donors. One bright spark of the whole DJT fiasco is Iran giving the bloated, corrupt, bigheaded MIC a kick in the balls.
…Drop the mic.
