Forgiving enemies is still forgiving enemies, or trespassers, or people who are ignorant or foolish or make mistakes – it is the same moral principle. Even pagans practice or acknowledge it. Otherwise civilisation could not exist.

Forgiving one’s enemy before he asks for forgiveness is fully consistent with The Platinum Rule, which is the moral code of secular liberalism: Treat others as THEY would have you treat them.
