Even though blacks are evangelical Protestants who speak the English language and have lived among us for almost four centuries, the racial gulf between the White South and Black America is far greater than the gulf between Southerners and France or Russia.

Rudel, Pontifex Maximus is an old title that was used for the head of the College of Pontiffs (Pontifex means bridge-maker), a position that existed way back to the founding of Rome and the second Roman king, Numa Pompilius, who founded the Roman religion with the inspiration of the nymph Egeria.
