Joe Biden Retreats On Refugee Resettlement

This is a victory for the “far right,” boys.

Joe is walking back his executive order on refugee resettlement. It isn’t because he has had a change of heart. It is because it is polling as one of the most unpopular and divisive things he has done as president.

CNN:

“(CNN) President Joe Biden has resisted signing off on raising the Trump-era refugee cap because of political optics, sources have told CNN.

The President’s hesitation comes as the administration faces heat from Republicans and Democrats for its handling of an influx of migrants at the US-Mexico border. But the situation at the US southern border is separate from the refugee program, which dates back decades and has a thorough vetting process in place for refugees overseas to resettle in the US.

One Democratic aide described what is unfolding as “vintage Biden” in terms of preserving his options so that he can maintain decision-making space for the one that best suits him politically.

Democratic lawmakers and advocates, frustrated with the delay, have tried to seek answers from the administration but have fallen short. …”

Refugee resettlement is another huge political albatross for the Democrats like wokeness and “Abolish ICE” and especially “Defund the Police.”

New York Times:

“The Biden administration will keep the target of refugee admissions for this year at the historically low level set by the Trump administration, walking back an earlier pledge to welcome more than 60,000 refugees into the United States.

President Biden in February committed to welcoming those fleeing persecution around the world, and to raising the cap of 15,000 refugees set by the prior administration. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken notified Congress on Feb. 12 that the administration planned to allow up to 62,500 refugees to enter the country in the fiscal year ending Sept. 30.

The reversal on Mr. Biden’s promise to welcome in thousands of families fleeing war and religious persecution signals the president’s hesitant approach to rebuilding an immigration system gutted by his successor. But the delay in officially designating the refugee admissions has already left hundreds of refugees cleared to travel to the United State stranded in camps around the world and infuriated resettlement agencies that accused Mr. Biden of breaking an earlier promise to restore the American reputation as a sanctuary for the oppressed. …”

BTW, this isn’t a case of “Based Biden.”

Donald Trump retreated on all kinds of issues as president too.

Note: The GOP should borrow a page from Joe Biden and trim their sails on wildly unpopular legislation like passing a huge corporate tax cut.

  1. The White Democrats who still have FDR aka common sense American policies are afraid of the left wing extremists. Gotta reject them before anything gets done. Same goes for the Republicans….gotta reject the right wing libertarian nuts who only care about Money Money Money and change views….become White Nationalists and run this country right again. Deo Vindice !

  2. Whenever I see Stonewall Jackson my heart swells with pride, until I remember that, short of a few leaders in The League of The South, it would be hard to find anyone like him, anywhere in The South of 2021.

    • If not for Stonewall Jackson, the civil war would have ended shortly after the 1st battle of Bull run. He rallied his troops by not moving under heavy Yankee assault. Hence the name “Stonewall”. I believe if he lived, the South would have won the war.
