Ross Douthat: What the New Right Sees

Ross Douthat thinks the New Right excels at diagnosing our problems and seeing the world clearly, but is terrible at coming up with solutions. I tend to agree. I think the country is trapped in a vortex and is rapidly spiraling toward some inevitable crisis, but I don’t see what can be done about it.

New York Times:

“The younger American right isn’t like the conservatism of 20 years ago — it’s more reactionary and radical all at once, more pessimistic and possibly more dangerous. That’s the message of a pair of recent anthropologies of the youthful conservative intelligentsia: one by Sam Adler-Bell in The New Republic, based on interviews with various junior reactionaries, and one by my colleague David Brooks in The Atlantic, following his sojourn at the National Conservatism Conference in Orlando, Fla.

The essays emphasize the ways in which the newer, younger right is ill at ease in contemporary America, its psychology defined more by alienation than the basic patriotic comfort (however threatened by Communists and liberals) that Ronald Reagan successfully embodied.

This emphasis is understandable, but there’s another way of looking at the new right’s place in American politics. Its vibe is alienated and radical, certainly — but at the same time its analysis of our situation feels more timely, more of this moment, than many alternative programs on the right or left or center. …

Being timelier, of course, doesn’t mean that the younger right is destined for power or wise governance. Its prescriptions lag its diagnoses and may never win popular support, and while it’s been empowered in certain ways by Trumpism, that entanglement may leave it an intellectual adjunct to a mostly destructive form of right-wing politics. (Exactly none of the challenges identified by the new right will be resolved if Trump drives us into a constitutional crisis in 2024.)

But still, if you look at reality through the new right’s alienated vision, you may see the strange world of 2021 more clearly than through other eyes.”

What’s your solution?

Let me tell you what I expect will happen: the Republicans will ride the latest wave of lib owning and backlash politics back into comfortable majorities in the House and Senate in the 2022 midterms on their revolutionary platform “Let’s Go Brandon.” Kevin McCarthy will become House Majority Leader. Mitch McConnell will be restored to power in the Senate. The policy agenda will be quietly sold to the donors and there really won’t be any policies coming out of the next Congress anyway because there will be nothing but more partisan gridlock and grandstanding until the 2024 election.

After the 2022 midterms, Your Favorite President will announce that he is launching his 2024 Revenge Tour which will quickly suck up all the oxygen in the room. No one will even try to mount a serious challenge against him in the Republican primary. They will all choose to wait for their turn in a future election cycle. The media will be happy to return to their business model of breathless coverage of Trump’s every move and the threat that he poses to democracy. Besides, the polls will all show that Joe Biden is as unpopular as Trump now with Independent voters and that will make Trump the favorite in the race.

It seems likely that Trump will defeat Joe Biden by a convincing margin which will further strengthen his grip on the Republican Party. The GOP will probably pick up even more House and Senate seats. By this point, all the haters and losers like Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger will have long been driven out of the party. God Emperor Blumpf will have a Trumpified Congress and a significantly larger majority at his command than before, but since he is the biggest narcissist in the country and the leader of a personality cult the only thing that will matter is that he is owning the libs by retaking the presidency.

And yes, none of the problems identified by the New Right will be solved in a Trump second term. The figure of Trump and his righteous fight against the libs is the story that will keep his followers spellbound. We saw this with QAnon and its stupid slogans like “Trust the Plan” and “The Storm is Coming.” It didn’t matter that nothing was being done. Ordinary people wanted to believe in Trump and his command of the situation and anyone who didn’t have faith in his leadership was ridiculed and shouted down.

It won’t be a total loss. Trump might even make progress in solving some problems around the edges. There is a strong chance, for example, that the Supreme Court strikes down Roe v. Wade. This would be due to the way Trump shaped the Supreme Court in his first term. Trump would definitely have a better relationship with Saudi Arabia and the oil and gas industry. Gas prices are consistently higher under Democrats. Trump wouldn’t support aggressive policies like a federal vaccine mandate. By the end of his first term, Trump also finally got the border under control after years of stumbling.

Trump isn’t going to do anything about the real problem which is the oligarchs who fuel the corruption of our politics. He isn’t going to do anything about their handmaidens, the PMCs, who dominate all the institutions although it is likely that he will at least shake up the leadership of the military and “intelligence community.” He has an axe to grind against these people. He might even go after Big Tech this time which stroked his ego while he was in office and deplatformed him once it seemed safe to do so.

If I am being totally honest, it would probably take a revolution to dislodge these people from power: France in the 1790s, Germany in the 1930s, Cambodia in the 1970s, etc. You would have to wipe out the oligarchs and PMCs and cultivate and replace them with a new professional class. You could disenfranchise radicalized post-graduates and place them under house arrest. Donald Trump isn’t interested in leading a revolution. He will be content to occupy the office and be the center of the universe again. The same class which brought him down the first time won’t be so lazy and will begin plotting against him immediately.

I watched Jack Tapper on State of the Union and Jay Rosen on Reliable Sources this morning. It is possible that this class of people, which will undoubtedly be even further radicalized by the return of Blumpf, make the first move in the name of “democracy” or something. “Our democracy” is what they call people like themselves lording it over the rest of us. We’ve seen what they are capable of inciting in the George Floyd riots. It is highly likely, even probable, that they will do something like that again in 2024.

If Trump comes back to power and wins decisively in 2024, the establishment could launch another insurrection against him. They will likely blame their defeat on “voter suppression.” They will say that Trump’s minions in the swing states rigged the 2024 election. There is no chance the Democrats will consent to losing power to Trump and acknowledging him as the victor. They will blame their defeat on “white supremacy” and “fascism” and systematic racism. Maybe it spirals from there?

Somehow, all of these issues are going to be resolved, but how that happens is anyone’s guess. Maybe it comes in the form of a devastating blow to American prestige with China retaking Taiwan? Maybe inflation will get bad enough to break our present political gridlock and open a window for reform? Maybe something that we haven’t anticipated ends the reign of the dollar as the world’s reserve currency? Maybe the two sides continue to radicalize to the point where fighting breaks out and one side is vanquished? Maybe democracy dies and Trump becomes another autocrat on the world stage like Erdogan?

Lately, it is become more conceivable that political gridlock ends when one side or the other unexpectedly collapses. In the case of the Democrats, you can imagine a scenario in which a combination of hyperinflation like in Germany in the 1920s combined with a reputation for aggressive Wokeism and cultural degeneration like in the Weimar Republic brings about the end of “our democracy.” Maybe they lose the power to maintain the existing taboos in the context of cultural and economic turmoil by becoming so thoroughly discredited that Whites can finally start to organize. The Democrats seem to be undergoing a form of natural selection that makes them more repulsive, alien and annoying to the median voter outside of their cultural metropolitan strongholds in each new election cycle.

Even though I can’t see any solutions at the moment, I remain optimistic. We shouldn’t be discouraged because a window for change hasn’t opened up yet. Just because we can’t see the solution doesn’t mean there isn’t one. The situation isn’t ripe enough. The fact that so many people are talking about the actual problems for a change is encouraging. This wasn’t the case ten years ago.

  1. I don’t see China instigating a military confrontation over Taiwan because that gives the Regime an excuse to launch a nuclear counterattack once China destroys the U. S. 7th fleet with its hypersonic ground attack missiles. Brandon and crew would be hoping this gets all the Patriots normally in opposition to his party united against The Enemy.
China is more subtle in its choice of attack modes. As I do see them holding a historic grudge against the U. S. and western countries in general over past humiliations I expect them if provoked territorially to stop purchasing American debt, which is the sole real financing mechanism of the U. S. Government ( taxes do not come close to covering yearly operating expenses, much less long term obligations like Medicare and Social Security) . If China does so, other nations and large wealth holders, public and private, will do likewise.
Once that happens, the Regime will not be able to raise taxes enough to pay for all of its fiscal redistribution commitments. The donors who fund campaigns will inform Chuck, Nancy, Mitch, and the rest of the elected hierarchy not to even think about asking them to pay for welfare for the little people. Government handouts are meant for donors, to support them against their commercial competitors. The Business of America is Business, isn’t it?
That is the genuine consequence of the almighty Dollar losing its reserve currency status, the ability of the Treasury to float endless bonds to numerous controllers of other people’s money to pay for Leviathan because as we are learning from the Trump-Biden inflation, there is a limit to how much money not created by legitimate voluntary exchanges of goods and services for cash can be given away to the 99%, as they spend it all, driving up demand without at the same time increasing supply. Econ 101.
That is your trigger mechanism for the End Times, the Boogaloo, or whatever words you want to use to describe the collapse of the Empire of Evil. No income, no food, no health, no nothing. I am of the opinion that there will be a hard fall for the USA, not a petering out with a whimper. The hate is too ingrained, too well learned, and the Oligarchs too wealthy to give it all up without a genocidal fight. We shall see. But by 2030, it will have been resolved, one way or another.

  2. ” the New Right excels at diagnosing our problems and seeing the world clearly,”

    ????
Who openly addresses jus , POC and race mixing?

They might address some symptoms, but no one is addressing the root causes.
Maybe David Duke , in cautiously guarded language.

  3. I thought the answer was obvious, given the power of Operation Scientology over a decade ago. Our greatest strength is relative anonymity and being decentralized. The success of the Revolutionary Patriot against the British and the Vietnamese Farmer against the US were guerrilla tactics. The greatest successes we’ve had the past several years were by remaining “in hiding” and continuing our operations privately, slowly converting our small families and few friends into one of us as news of the latest riot poured in, while our greatest failures have been going to demonstrate and putting targets on our backs.

If you want to “take this country back”, it will take considerable time. Perhaps less, if the opposition continues to crave instant gratification.

    • The environmentalists won by becoming a voting block that both sides needed to win, and the goal is that pro-whites become THE voting block both the democrats and the republicans need to win.
Denmark already have this dynamic, where the left went anti-immigration and won, and that further radicalized the right to become more populists and pro-Danish.
I reckon this can go pretty quick in the USA, as the democrats that don’t hate white people will start winning for congress or the senate, thus changing the Democratic party in a more moderate direction.

  4. Re: “their revolutionary platform Let’s Go Brandon”:

You could say it is a partisan slogan or at most a populist platform, but it is not revolutionary, unless you meant that ironically. Yes I know you did.

“it would probably take a revolution to dislodge these people from power: France in the 1790s, Germany in the 1930s, Cambodia in the 1970s, etc. You would have to wipe out the oligarchs and PMCs”:

Sadly all three of those revolutions were derailed and channeled back into fake or non-socialism: Bonapartism, Naziism and CIA-supported Polpotism. Yes it would take a well-executed, thorough and complete revolution, or some enormous, continent-wide natural disaster like the eruption of Yellowstone or a large asteroid strike.

Re: “you can imagine a scenario in which a combination of hyperinflation like in Germany in the 1920s combined with a reputation for aggressive Wokeism and cultural degeneration like in the Weimar Republic brings about the end”:

The System was disturbed by inflation in Weimar, but it was still very strong, and it defeated the German revolution by letting the Freikorps and Kapp’s putschers run wild and the Nazis take over.

Re: “the New Right excels at diagnosing our problems and seeing the world clearly, but is terrible at coming up with solutions”:

The Right is wrong whether new or old, and its solutions are essentially the same as the moderates’ and the fake left’s. Two sides of the same coin, two wings of the same dragon.

Re: “Trump isn’t going to do anything about the real problem which is the oligarchs”:

He won’t even contend with them as much as Putin does. But it takes a real socialist (sadly, Putin is not one) to really resist them. As the Scripture says, “the love of money is the root of all this evil.” Jesus said “the poor you always have with you” – because it is an evil world that worships Mammon. Without equality, there is no real liberty and no fraternity, and there is no real republic without the peasants.

  5. What is Ross Douthat’s solution?

Ross Douthat:”full speed ahead with the Hindu colonization of America….Hindu Power!!!!”

  6. >Ross Douthat thinks the New Right excels at diagnosing our problems and seeing the world clearly, but is terrible at coming up with solutions. I tend to agree
I think the same, and I think the main reason is that we have anonymity enough that people dare to be honest, while the rest hate anonymity as they use social shaming to keep their adherents in line.

As for solutions, most of us don’t want any solutions that could help the globohomo totalitarians stay in power, so the only advice that is given is get an education that make you able to live in the countryside, get a family and get to know your neighbor. It’s the wagies and bugmen in the city that really suffer today, not a tractor mechanic or veterinarian.

As to why the rest is suck so bad at solving modern problems, is that modern problems are all connected to the subjects progressives and cuckservatives can’t talk about. Problems you can’t talk about, don’t get solved, and one example is how the progressives must celebrate the modern multiracial city, even if Putnam wrote over 20 years ago about how racial and ethnic integration ended up hurting everybody and with a society where people are bowling alone.

  7. There might be some conflict between Trump and Desantis for the 2024 Republican nomination. If Shitpants Joe is still alive in ’24 and runs for reelection that might spark a revolt in the Demoncrap Party.

  8. Ross Douthat: ”full speed ahead with the Hindu colonization of America….Hindu Power!!!!”

If so, let’s pray that Douthat is the first to commit suttee for his mamonic god. We should be more than happy to assist his climb to the top of the pyre in any way we can.

  9. If Judas Dump’s otherwise empty “owning the libs” drives them into such a rage that they pull out all the stops and order their BLM & antifag scum to mount attacks on the “racist white trash” on an unprecedented level that will make ’20 look like the Queen’s annual garden party, I’m all for it: SOMEthing big has got to happen to finally break the current iron control of the kikes & the billionaires so that they can be successfully gotten at.

  10. The only solution is to do whatever possible in our limited capacity to weaken America, so that it loses prominence on the global stage. That and something akin to White American Maoism.

  11. This may seem counterintuitive, but Joe Biden might be the saviour of the United States because 1) he’s giving the oligarchs and his party’s social justice warriors enough role to hang themselves, and 2) he and his family are so corrupt that he is simultaneously subject to bribery and blackmail from the very countries the Usual Suspects want to go to war with.

Biden already sabotaged the Woke agenda by staffing vital positions less with competent and/or popular people and more with people who checked every lunatic fringe element box imaginable. He’s pissed on any presidential aspirations Heels Up Harris has left. She’s through with politics, not even having her Senate seat snymore.

After breaking the military’s morale by imposing lockdowns, forced vaccines and critical race theory on the Whites who make the military work, he called the Military Industrial Complex’s bluff by forcing our withdrawal from Afghanistan even after they parked more manpower and equipment there.

For all the huffing and puffing about Ukraine and Taiwan, I can’t see the Biden Administration stopping respectively Russia and China from annexing those territories no matter how strongly the (((Media))) is trying to talk disaffected Whites angry about forced vaccinations, lockdowns, and our broken borders to militarily defend the sovereignty of those territories.

Russia and China will make their move next year along with Iran also getting its own nukes while The Establishment is too busy trying to Save “Our Democracy” from We The People. With all their kvetching about how admired Putin is by the American Right by (((Media Pundits))), I don’t see Russia or China preemptively invading our country.

Wanted to add that even Xi and Putin are concerned about World Opinion so Taiwan won’t see the type of repression that the Uyghurs (who are only being championed by the Neo Con Media). The Ukraine and the Baltics will calm down after seeing that they are not dealing with the Soviet Union’s Bolsheviks anymore. My feeling is that the Baltics will be safer than Western Europe from the EU’s genocidal Kalergi Plan because voluntarily forming a union with Putin saves them from mass Non-White immigration.

The Media, whose credibility is already questionable where your average American of any race is concerned will lose even more credibility when the predicted doom and gloom for Ukraine and Taiwan never happen. Nuclear Iran will contain not attack Israel and Israel will be further contained by its neighbors who will all nuclearize as well in a “defensive response” to , “Iran, ” of course.

Without US-led NATO as its Golem, Israel will either be forced to get along with its neighbors rather than bullying them or the Israelis will all grab their other unofficial passports and voluntarily cede the territory back to the Palestinians. Without its hegemonic power, I seriously doubt a ruined American economy will be that attractive to fleeing Israelis OR many Jews here.

Xi’s militantly atheist regime of Han control freaks makes it clear that China as the new Host for the Eternal Guests will not be the soft landing that America was. Out of necessity and partly in revenge against China, they will be forced to move to and build up India, which requires a lot of work and capital.

I may sound overly optimistic, but Biden compromising American hegemony overseas and American sovereignty at home will force the GOP to make the issues Trump ran on in 2016 return on steroids. It all depends on Trump learning from his own mistakes by choosing a like-minded vice presidential candidate as his running mate rather than an obvious Zionist like Pompeo, and keeping Jarvanka out of the White House.

Trump being a vindictive asshole will work in our favor. He knows McConnell, Graham, and other established Republicans sabotaged 2020 for him and will be out to humiliate them. If Trump is the GOP nominee for 2024, I suspect McConnell, Graham, and other Never Trump Republicans will retire from office before he’s sworn back in.

So, providing White Nationalists stay out of their own way and not stop their enemies from making the mistakes, i.e, allowing the antics of Black Lives Matter and Antifa to push Hispanics and Asians into unifying with working class and Middle Class Whites against Wokeism which we know is Anti-White, we can prevail.
