General AnCap: A Year Later

I didn’t get everything right in 2024.

In particular, I initially thought that we should take a wait and see approach to Javier Milei. Hyperinflation was destroying the economy and standard of living in Argentina. Desperate people were willing to take a chance on Milei. The form populism takes depends on the circumstances.

In the wake of October 7th, the focus shifted to Israel/Palestine and anti-Zionism. Milei was elected president of Argentina and began parading around as an ultra-Zionist. He visited the tomb of that dead Chabad rabbi in New York. The Dissident Right quickly soured on Milei and forgot that inflation was the only issue that really mattered in Argentina. Many activists here similarly insisted on downplaying the salience of inflation and immigration in favor of focusing on “anti-Zionism.”

A year later, Javier Milei has brought inflation in Argentina down from 25.5% to 2.7%. No one gives a shit what he thinks about Israel because he stopped the downward spiral of immiseration.

AP:

“Inflation, Argentina’s perpetual scourge and Milei’s top priority upon coming to office, slowed from a monthly rate of 25.5% in December 2023 to just 2.7% in October — its lowest level in three years.

“Inflation has gone down faster than what everyone has expected,” said Ignacio Labaqui, a Buenos Aires-based senior analyst at risk consultancy Medley Global Advisors. “That’s something that validates his narrative and sustains his popularity.”

In a sign of Milei’s long way to go — and the unmitigated shambles he inherited — Argentina’s annual inflation rate remains at 193%.

But Argentines are paying closer attention to month-to-month inflation, taking the sharp decline as a sign that Milei’s fiscal shock therapy is paying off. …”

CNN:

“London/Bogota/Buenos Aires CNN — Javier Milei swept to power in Argentina a year ago on a ticket to tackle chronic hyperinflation and overhaul the long-suffering economy. In one regard — slashing the size of the state — he has proven so successful that Donald Trump’s government efficiency tsars want to replicate his approach.

Under the chainsaw-wielding Libertarian economist, the government has posted rare consecutive monthly budget surpluses and inflation has fallen sharply — “better-than-expected results,” according to the International Monetary Fund.

During a meeting with Milei at the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida last month, Trump said Milei had done “a fantastic job” as president.

Investors have also cheered the changes in Argentina: Its flagship Merval stock index, which tracks around two dozen of the country’s most valuable listed companies, has soared almost 140% this year. …”

Gallup:

“LONDON — At the one-year mark of Javier Milei’s presidency, Gallup data show that his “shock treatment” appears to be working in terms of public opinion. Argentines feel more optimistic about the economy and more confident under Milei’s government.

However, many long-standing challenges remain, and people continue to struggle to meet basic needs and have a dim view of the current job market. …”

I thought Argentina’s economy would get worse.

I thought Argentina would be plundered by Jewish capitalists like Ukraine.

  1. I suggest Hunter Wallace should stop drinking the ZOG media kool aid, clueless as always. This Milei is a total clown and worships ZOG, that alone is absolutely disqualifying, no white nationalist should put economic matters ahead of white interests EVER (and no, inflation rates are not important to the white race).

But if you really want to discuss purely economic matters, Israel is extremely subsidized by US taxpayers, so no libertarian ideal is it now. Secondly the clown was raging about those dastardly Chinese communists, but in news not reported in ZOG media, he ended up doing trade deals with China, which is the true engine of any economic revival for Argentina.

  2. Who does this U Chicago (je*) School of Economics Libertarian guy’s hair? Is it the same barber as ex British PM Boris Johnson? What a disappointment BJ turned out 2B.

  3. Here’s something that will work for any mid economy country not in Europe, UK, USA, Canada.

Offer “fault divorce” for Western men getting hosed by feminist, woke wives, girl friends.

When a somewhat wealthy American, Canadian, British guy flies to Argentina , he can get a “it was her fault” divorce and not become enslaved by alimony, vaginamony bh the likes of CA Jewess Layers such as Gloria Allred (what a name)

  4. “I thought Argentina would be plundered by Jewish capitalists like Ukraine”.

Maybe not yet, but I’m sure there will be plenty of time for that….

  5. I wrote last year after he won that the proper analogy to American politics to draw from it was 1980, not 2016.

Lots of lazy brain people too quickly conflate Milei with the pop-nat universe. When in reality, Milei is designed to address a particular set of problems in a particular place at a particular time. He is not the samey same as the big wheels in the pop-nat arena that we can all readily name.

In fact, I saw an article in “The Economist” last week which made the same point. Which means that someone else out there gets it.

I will say in Milei’s favor that, to the extent that he has needed to address issues that are pop-nat adjacent, (and they don’t come up very often in Argentina right now), he’s almost always on the correct side of them, even though they are not his major focus and his raison d’etre. Unlike most major American libertarians, who can usually be counted on to cuck out when the temperature gets just a little hot.

  6. President Milei as forecasted, disappointed the usual suspects. Argentina is one of the countries in the Eurosphere which actually has state religion: Popery. Its why all the ((Nazis)),every single Papist one of them escaped to Argentina.

At first, the ((midwits)) here at OD thought Milei might be the second coming of Peron and Franco. Obviously, they didn’t look at his background and realize he was a Catholic evangelist, was highly critical of the Papacy, and was at heart a libertarian. He also supported Israel. Later it came out he was actually 1/8th Jewish.

The incessent harranging about Zionism and Jews and the relative lack of criticism about the Papacy, has convinced this recalcritrant Papist to consider WWND (What Would Netanyahu Do). Obviously, the first thing he would do is convert to Judaism. So, apparentely Milei is studying Torah in preparation for becoming a Jew. I predict he will be Messianic Jew and spread the Gospel to Jews.

Meanwhile, Milei has literally saved a nation of Papist Guidos, Dagos, Frogs, and Helmuts, out of their pre ordained shambles into a success story. Argentina’s finances are back on sound footing. He has also clamped down hard on the various Islamists found amongst Argentina’s Middle Eastern Diaslora. The Papists are displeased with this success. They wanted a nuclear Argentina ready to fought against Israel.

  7. > A year later, Javier Milei has brought inflation in Argentina down from 25.5% to 2.7%. No one gives a shit what he thinks about Israel because he stopped the downward spiral of immiseration.

That’s fair enough – as far as it goes. So what happens when he starts jailing all those who question the holiness of the master race? Wonder if the Argentines will love him so much if their young men start coming back in body bags after fighting to gain the Zionazi regime the Milei clown adores some additional lebensraum? I didn’t know Christian Zionism was a thing in Argentina. Right now, he’s making noise and fellating the banksteins to keep the lending spigot open. How deep is his love of the Schlomo-shlong? Only the nose knows.

    Wait and see still applies.

  8. Annual inflation in Argentina is still at 193%. The country has been an economic mess for decades. Something like 50 families control the nation’s wealth and they stash it in offshore bank accounts. Electing Captain Goofball will only delay the inevitable catastrophe the country needs to undergo to restructure itself.

  9. Thats all very fair. Do you believe there is a snowballs chance in hell that Trump could even do half of that for the US? I don’t know what the official inflation numbers are but it doesnt take an ivy league education to see the dollar is worth less and less week after week, with no sign of changing direction.
