4. I see absolutely nothing good coming of AI. Best case is many good jobs are eliminated and yet more people spend yet more time playing video games; worst case is we all die.

     I think it will have a devastating effect on the job market.

     My sense of this is that we are in an arms race with China over AI and will do anything to “win” like in the Cold War. The Chinese have boasted for years about being ahead of us in AI. I reviewed a book about the subject five years ago here when Andrew Yang was raising awareness about the issue.

   Trillions of dollars that companies like OpenAI and Anthropic don’t actually have being spent on data centers used to generate slop to save a few shekels. This is pretty indicative of where Trump II is at though, definitely will expect bailouts if any of the AI or crypto “investments” go bad.

   • I’ve started using ChatGPT a bit to help with my own work, and it really is quite amazing – at least the more advanced model they only give you occasional access to unless you pony up for their subscription. I’m glad I didn’t put all my eggs in the “learn to code” basket, because I think 90% of those people will soon be obsolete.

     Not that I think writing arcane incantations to make magic hunks of sand do interesting things is really the best use of intellectual capital. But what *are* smart people actually good for? Seems an interesting question for a movement so obsessed with IQ scores.

     Definitely. There is a wink and a nod that when, not if this AI/Stargate “investment” goes tits up the U.S. Government will bail them out. Just like the 1984 Mexican peso crisis, the 1987 stock market crash, the S&L crisis, the dot-com crash, the airlines (et al.) bailout after 9/11, the 2008 banking/real estate bailout and most recently, Silicon Valley Bank bailout, the U.S. Government will do its real job: protect the money and institutions of the wealthy and powerful who don’t take catastrophic losses from making bad bets on Wall Street.

     No glorious “free market” for those scumbags, a big dose of socialism for them when things go bad. It’s only the small investor without money to buy politicians who gets a Big Gulp size dose of wonderful capitalism when the indebtedness of the billionaire class causes a financial crisis. The hypocrites in the WSJ/Fox TV world and the rest of the Lügenpresse will be all over the inevitable bailout proclaiming how everyone benefits from it of course, some more than others. That is called “Democracy in Action”.

     Thus has it always been.

6. I correct so called AI all the time. Its mostly over general historical or sociological fscts, but has also included alternative history outcomes, various types of politico-military war gaming, and especially over anything human interest oriented. Humans are simply to complex for AI to control and dominate. Instead it will likely be simple laziness that allows some sort of techno tyranny reliant upon AI.

   For example, I’ve had to correct it on the outcomes of future tarrifs on economiew, past history of tarrifs on economies, and potential human factors under plausible socio-economic conditions. It gets facts about human society wrong quiet often, and generally makes assumptions based on neo-liberal philosophical programming by humans. This makes AI simply a calculator of outcomes based on information put into it. Garbage in, garbage out.

   Another perfect example of this reality was early AI programmers beta testing it on Black Crime and getting solutions that freaked out the Woke oriented program managers. The later promptly changed the AI programming causing almost all future AI models to be fundamentally flawed and prone to mistakes.  When it comes to Mathematical and Engineering calculations, or writing papers, creating content, etc AI is more effective. But, again, it is totally dependent on human predetermined calculation solutions put into it. As a result, it is unlikely AI will ever make actual discoveries such as what Louis Pasteur did.

   These AI promoters and doomsayers are just nerds with too much power, who are either too engineer or programmer focused and who have little actual intellect. AI will help write code. It will help write papers. It will help create content. It will make program codes, mathematical calculations etc. But, only in so far as to what basic human ingenuity copies into it. AI can learn to write better codes, better models, better content, but it entirely dependent upon constructs and guardrails put in by humans. 

   Ive read Strategic briefing papers by young staffers with all sorts of wonky talk and buzzwords, and which is memorandum form correct, yet clearly written by AI. Such Briefs have little original content but repeat political talking points mechanistically. In contrast, I’ve read declassified strategic briefings, written by actual humans from the 1940s and 1950s which were some of the best briefs imaginable. Very little wonky buzzword content, yet so philosophically sound and English rhetorically persuasive, that they still guided US policies generations later. Modern Millenial Staff briefs underwritten by AI don’t last a few years. 

   In the end, AI will just make the prols more stupid. They won’t be able to think except to conform to a specified question with a specific answer developed by their betters, and which AI calculates the solutionq for them. Content creators will likewise be boxed within the parameters of AI. Things will be bland, stratified, and unoriginal. Meanwhile, the savvier folks will figure out to game the system for their own self aggrandizement and accumulation of power. The proverbial ghost behind the machine. This is what rule by Nerds look like under Vivek and Elon.

   East Indians, who are notorious cheaters and monkey like imitators will excell at this b.s. Because they cheat, the system will be notoriously prone to breakdowns. Furthermore, we as a social species really wont go to the stars under this system. Society will calcify except for a very small techno feudal elite who will manage through some instruments to dominate tech and the rest of lazy stupid humanity. Their probes, rockets, and perfected AI machines will survey other planets, but very few will actually go there.

   What will likely happen under this system, is the population will just slide into the gutter of dependence and submit to an actually weak, but malevolent elite which has learned to tweak AI. Eventually, the perfected machines meld with the elite humans to create a cyborg transhumanist elite. This is the forewarning from Metropolis to Dune. How far this goes before humans revolt against this machine learning and reactivate their full human potential is what is up for debate. Personally, I doubt this timeline will go long in the AI direction before it is removed over a few generations, unlike the speculated future history of Dune and other dystopia writers.
