In this moment of political darkness for Democrats, it is easy for us to gloat and engage in cringe mining, but it turns out most Democrats disagree with progressive activists.

Unsurprisingly, progressives want their party to become more liberal, but not as much as moderate Democrats who overwhelmingly want the party to become more moderate. There is a political space opening up for the next Bill Clinton, not the next Bernie Sanders.
Looking ahead, I think we could see the emergence of two MAGA parties in much the same way that by the 1950s we had a “mainstream” of two liberal parties under Dwight Eisenhower, or how the rise of Bill Clinton and Tony Blair were responses on the Left to Reagan and Thatcher.
Note: The Republicans radically changed their brand under Trump to compete with the Obama coalition. The Democratic establishment has also been fatally weakened by Trump’s reelection.
Democrats do not need to be any more moderate on economics. What they need to do is move to the center on social issues and move to the left on economics. Most Democrats simply tolerate the extremism on social issues because they like the economics.

The Democrat Party cannot become a “moderate” party now, not really. They can pretend, to a limited extent, that they aren’t really the Coalition of the Fringes (HT Steve Sailer) anymore but their base is the Coalition of the Fringes. Their problem is that the Democrats’ bizarre collection of misfits, freaks, aggrieved minorities and perverts, together with its failed economic policies soured White, college mis-educated, “liberal” voters, who are sympathetic to the Democrats, out of frustration and fear, not conviction, to vote Republican last time.
The Republicans will sell out their base, they can’t help themselves. They are the party of business and business wants slave wages always and the way to get that is to import the Third World. Third World types are inherently anti-White and will naturally support the Democrat Party. The Republicans are just going to wait out Trump, who is still allowing Third World immigrants into the country anyway and return to business as usual.
We saw a version of this betrayal with that great “conservative” Ronald Reagan with his “Morning in America” and “City on a Hill” garbage. He proceeded to oversee the de-industrialization of the country, impoverishing working class voters who had switched from voting Democrat to Republican in 1980 because of President Carter’s manifold failures. This was a failed opportunity to win over working class voters long term for short term financial gain.
Reagan never secured the borders, stopped immigration and signed the 1986 amnesty for millions of illegal aliens instead of deporting them. This turned California, Reagan’s home state from Republican to Democrat and into a Third World state. What did that great “Conservative”, Ronald Reagan conserve anyway? It wasn’t the U.S. in any recognizable form.

People forget that until the realignment of the 1970’s the Republican Party was to the left of the Democrat Party, and both parties were Big Tent parties. The Progressive movement of the late 19th Century was a Republican movement.
I’ll vote Democrat if they become more moderate in the next few years. Centrist/Moderate Blue Dog Democrats ( except Clinton ) tend to be very reasonable. Maybe even open to a nuanced and effective White Identitarianism.
The Democrats are more likely to double down on the crazy pills then moderate. Look for the Left to wake up from its stupor by this spring or summer and try to pull off more George Floyd style riots.
